In this study, green synthesis of CuO nanoparticles using Artabotrys hexapetalus and Bambusa vulgaris plant extract as a reducing agent assisted with co-precipitation method is carried out. The formation of phase pure monoclinic CuO nanoparticles was identified using x-ray diffraction analysis. The visible light absorption ability of Artabotrys hexapetalus and Bambusa vulgaris plant extract treated CuO nanoparticles were confirmed using UV-DRS analysis. The morphological investigation reveals the spherical shape of CuO nanoparticles in with the particle size of about 15 nm. The presence of biomolecules on the surface of CuO nanoparticles was confirmed using FTIR analysis and it confirms the role of plant extract as reducing agent. The photocatalytic degradation ability of Artabotrys hexapetalus and Bambusa vulgaris plant extract treated CuO nanoparticles under visible light irradiation were studied using Rhodamine B (RhB) as a model organic dye. The pseudo first-order kinetics model is used to calculate the degradation rate constant and the degradation rate is found as 1.51 × 10−2 min−1 and 1.82 × 10−2 min−1 for Achyranthes aspera and Crotalaria verrucosa treated CuO nanoparticles, respectively. The antibacterial ability of both prepared CuO nanoparticles is examined against gram-negative E. coli pathogen.
