The T2K experiment
The T2K experiment is a long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment. Its main goal is to measure the last unknown lepton sector mixing angle θ13 by observing νe appearance in a νμ beam. It also aims to make a precision measurement of the known oscillation parameters, Δm232 and sin22θ23, via νμ disappearance studies. Other goals of the experiment include various neutrino cross-section measurements and sterile neutrino searches. The experiment uses an intense proton beam generated by the J-PARC accelerator in Tokai, Japan, and is composed of a neutrino beamline, a near detector complex (ND280), and a far detector (Super-Kamiokande) located 295 km away from J-PARC. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the instrumentation aspect of the T2K experiment and a summary of the vital information for each subsystem.

Identifying the Higgs spin and parity in decays to Z pairs
Higgs decays to Z boson pairs may be exploited to determine spin and parity of the Higgs boson, a method complementary to spin–parity measurements in Higgs-strahlung. For a Higgs mass above the on-shell ZZ decay threshold, a model-independent analysis can be performed, but only by making use of additional angular correlation effects in gluon–gluon fusion at the LHC and γγ fusion at linear colliders. In the intermediate mass range, in which the Higgs boson decays into pairs of real and virtual Z bosons, threshold effects and angular correlations, parallel to Higgs-strahlung, may be adopted to determine spin and parity, though high event rates will be required for the analysis in practice.

We have used a sample of photon+3 jets events collected by the D0 experiment with an integrated luminosity of about 1 fb^-1 to determine the fraction of events with double parton scattering (f_DP) in a single ppbar collision at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV. The DP fraction and effective cross section (sigma_eff), a process-independent scale parameter related to the parton density inside the nucleon, are measured in three intervals of the second (ordered in pT) jet transverse momentum pT_jet2 within the range 15 < pT_jet2 < 30 GeV. In this range, f_DP varies between 0.23 < f_DP < 0.47, while sigma_eff has the average value sigma_eff_ave = 16.4 +- 0.3(stat) +- 2.3(syst) mb.

Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 3. Higgs Properties
This Report summarizes the results of the activities in 2012 and the first half of 2013 of the LHC Higgs Cross Section Working Group. The main goal of the working group was to present the state of the art of Higgs Physics at the LHC, integrating all new results that have appeared in the last few years. This report follows the first working group report Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 1. Inclusive Observables (CERN-2011-002) and the second working group report Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 2. Differential Distributions (CERN-2012-002). After the discovery of a Higgs boson at the LHC in mid-2012 this report focuses on refined prediction of Standard Model (SM) Higgs phenomenology around the experimentally observed value of 125-126 GeV, refined predictions for heavy SM-like Higgs bosons as well as predictions in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and first steps to go beyond these models. The other main focus is on the extraction of the characteristics and properties of the newly discovered particle such as couplings to SM particles, spin and CP-quantum numbers etc.

The PHENIX experiment at RHIC has measured the centrality dependence of the direct photon yield from Au+Au collisions at √sNN=200 GeV down to pT=0.4 GeV/c. Photons are detected via photon conversions to e+e− pairs and an improved technique is applied that minimizes the systematic uncertainties that usually limit direct photon measurements, in particular at low pT. We find an excess of direct photons above the Ncoll-scaled yield measured in p+p collisions. This excess yield is well described by an exponential distribution with an inverse slope of about 240MeV/c in the pT range 0.6–2.0 GeV/c. While the shape of the pT distribution is independent of centrality within the experimental uncertainties, the yield increases rapidly with increasing centrality, scaling approximately with Nαpart, where α=1.38±0.03(stat)±0.07(syst).3 MoreReceived 23 May 2014Revised 16 March 2015DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevC.91.064904©2015 American Physical Society

We present an updated measurement of the anomalous like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry Aslb for semi-leptonic $b$-hadron decays in 9.0 fb^-1 of p pbar collisions recorded with the D0 detector at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We obtain Aslb = (-0.787 +- 0.172(stat) +- 0.093 (syst))%. This result differs by 3.9 standard deviations from the prediction of the standard model and provides evidence for anomalously large CP violation in semi-leptonic neutral B decay. The dependence of the asymmetry on the muon impact parameter is consistent with the hypothesis that it originates from semi-leptonic b-hadron decays.

We present a measurement of the W boson mass using data corresponding to 4.3fb^-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the D0 detector during Run II at the Fermilab Tevatron p\bar{p} collider. With a sample of 1,677,394 W -> e\nu candidate events, we measure M_W = 80.367 +/- 0.026 GeV. Analysis of the neutralino system in supersymmetric theories
Charginos $\tilde{\chi}^\pm$ and neutralinos $\tilde{\chi}^0$ in supersymmetric theories can be produced copiously at $e^+e^-$ colliders and their properties can be measured with high accuracy. Consecutively to the chargino system, in which the SU(2) gaugino parameter $M_2$ , the higgsino mass parameter $\mu$ and $\tan\beta$ can be determined, the remaining fundamental supersymmetry parameter in the gaugino/higgsino sector of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model, the U(1) gaugino mass $M_1$ , can be analyzed in the neutralino system, including its modulus and its phase in CP–noninvariant theories. The CP properties of the neutralino system are characterized by unitarity quadrangles. Analytical solutions for the neutralino mass eigenvalues and the mixing matrix are presented for CP–noninvariant theories in general. They can be written in compact form for large supersymmetric mass parameters. The closure of the neutralino and chargino systems can be studied by exploiting sum rules for the pair-production processes in $e^+e^-$ collisions. Thus the picture of the non–colored gaugino and higgsino complex in supersymmetric theories can comprehensively be reconstructed in these experiments.

Reconstructing the chargino system at $e^+e^-$ linear colliders
In most supersymmetric theories charginos, $\tilde{\chi}^\pm_{1,2}$ , belong to the class of the lightest supersymmetric particles. The chargino system can be reconstructed completely in $e^+e^-$ collider experiments: $e^+e^-\rightarrow\tilde{\chi}_i^+ \tilde{\chi}_j^- \, \, [i,j=1,2]$ . By measuring the total cross sections and the asymmetries with polarized beams, the chargino masses and the gaugino–higgsino mixing angles of these states can be determined accurately. If only the lightest charginos $\tilde{\chi}_1^\pm$ are kinematically accessible in a first phase of the machine, transverse beam polarization or the measurement of chargino polarization in the final state is needed to determine the mixing angles. From these observables the fundamental SUSY parameters can be derived: the SU(2) gaugino mass $M_2$ , the modulus and the cosine of the CP–violating phase of the higgsino mass parameter $\mu$ , and $\tan\beta = v_2/v_1$ , the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the two neutral Higgs doublet fields. The remaining two–fold ambiguity of the phase can be resolved by measuring the normal polarization of the charginos. Sum rules of the cross sections can be exploited to investigate the closure of the two–chargino system.

Measurement of the Top Quark Mass Using Dilepton Events
The D0 collaboration has performed a measurement of the top quark mass based on six candidate events for the process t tbar -> b W+ bbar W-, where the W bosons decay to e nu or mu nu. This sample was collected during an exposure of the D0 detector to an integrated luminosity of 125 pb^-1 of sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV p-pbar collisions. We obtain mt = 168.4 +- 12.3 (stat) +- 3.7 (sys) GeV/c^2, consistent with the measurement obtained using single-lepton events. Combination of the single-lepton and dilepton results yields mt = 172.0 +- 7.5 GeV/c^2.

We present the first measurement of dijet angular distributions in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The measurement is based on a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 0.7fb-1 collected with the D0 detector. Dijet angular distributions have been measured over a range of dijet masses, from 0.25TeV to above 1.1TeV. The data are in good agreement with the predictions of perturbative QCD and are used to constrain new physics models including quark compositeness, large extra dimensions, and TeV-1 scale extra dimensions. For all models we set the most stringent direct limits to date.

We report the measurement of cumulants ($C_n, n=1\ldots4$) of the net-charge distributions measured within pseudorapidity ($|\eta|<0.35$) in Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=7.7-200$ GeV with the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The ratios of cumulants (e.g. $C_1/C_2$, $C_3/C_1$) of the net-charge distributions, which can be related to volume independent susceptibility ratios, are studied as a function of centrality and energy. These quantities are important to understand the quantum-chromodynamics phase diagram and possible existence of a critical end point. The measured values are very well described by expectation from negative binomial distributions. We do not observe any nonmonotonic behavior in the ratios of the cumulants as a function of collision energy. The measured values of $C_1/C_2 = \mu/\sigma^2$ and $C_3/C_1 = S\sigma^3/\mu$ can be directly compared to lattice quantum-chromodynamics calculations and thus allow extraction of both the chemical freeze-out temperature and the baryon chemical potential at each center-of-mass energy.

Production and optical properties of Gd-loaded liquid scintillator for the RENO neutrino detector
Reactor experiment for neutrino oscillation (RENO) began data-taking from August 2011. It successfully observed reactor antineutrino disappearance in April 2012 to measure the smallest mixing angle of θ13. Two identical detectors, one at near location and the other at far location, are constructed at the Yonggwang nuclear power plant in South Korea, to compare the observed reactor neutrino fluxes. Each RENO detector is filled with 16 mass tons of Gadolinium loaded liquid scintillator (GdLS) in the neutrino target region, and with 28 mass tons of unloaded liquid scintillator (LS) in the γ-catcher region surrounding the target. LS was developed to satisfy chemical, physical, optical properties, and safety requirements. Linear alkyl benzene (LAB) was chosen as a solvent because of its high flash-point, sufficient light yield, and being environmentally friendly. GdLS is carefully developed to keep a long attenuation length and high light yield for a long time period. In this paper, we report the characteristics and mass production of the RENO LS and GdLS.

We present a measurement of the inclusive jet cross section using the Run II cone algorithm and data collected by the D0 experiment in p pbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.70 fb^(-1). The jet energy calibration and the method used to extract the inclusive jet cross section are described. We discuss the main uncertainties, which are dominated by the jet energy scale uncertainty. The results cover jet transverse momenta from 50 GeV to 600 GeV with jet rapidities in the range -2.4 to 2.4 and are compared to predictions using recent proton parton distribution functions. Studies of correlations between systematic uncertainties in transverse momentum and rapidity are presented.

The b production cross section and angular correlations in p collisions at =
We present measurements of the bb production cross section and angular correlations using the DØ detector at the Fermilab Tevatron pp Collider operating at s = 1.8 TeV. The b quark production cross section for |yb|<1.0 and pTb>6 GeV/c is extracted from single muon and dimuon data samples. The results agree in shape with the next-to-leading order QCD calculation of heavy flavor production but are greater than the central values of these predictions. The angular correlations between b and b quarks, measured from the azimuthal opening angle between their decay muons, also agree in shape with the next-to-leading order QCD prediction.

Search for associated production of charginos and neutralinos in the trilepton final state using 2.3 fb−1 of data
We report the results of a search for associated production of charginos and neutralinos using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 fb−1 collected with the DØ experiment during Run II of the Tevatron proton–antiproton collider. Final states containing three charged leptons and missing transverse energy are probed for a signal from supersymmetry with four dedicated trilepton event selections. No evidence for a signal is observed, and we set limits on the product of production cross section and leptonic branching fraction. Within minimal supergravity, these limits translate into bounds on m0 and m1/2 that are well beyond existing limits.

Using 7.3 pb-1 of ppbar collisions collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, we measure the distribution of the variable \phistar, which probes the same physical effects as the Z/gamma* boson transverse momentum, but is less susceptible to the effects of experimental resolution and efficiency. A QCD prediction is found to describe the general features of the \phistar distribution, but is unable to describe its detailed shape or dependence on boson rapidity. A prediction that includes a broadening of transverse momentum for small values of the parton momentum fraction is strongly disfavored.

We present a measurement of the inclusive top quark pair production cross section in \ppbar collisions at (\sqrt{s}=1.96) TeV utilizing data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of \lumi\ collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We consider final states containing one high-$p_{T}$ isolated electron or muon and at least two jets, and we perform three analyses: one exploiting specific kinematic features of \ttbar events, the second using $b$-jet identification, and the third using both techniques to separate \ttbar\ signal from background. In the third case, we determine simultaneously the $t\bar{t}$ cross section and the ratio of the production rates of $W$+heavy flavor jets and $W$+light flavor jets, which reduces the impact of the systematic uncertainties related to the background estimation. Assuming a top quark mass of 172.5 GeV, we obtain $\sigma_{t\bar{t}} = 7.78^{+0.77}_{-0.64} $ pb. This result agrees with predictions of the standard model.

Measurement of the semileptonic charge asymmetry inB0meson mixing with the D0 detector
We present a measurement of the semileptonic mixing asymmetry for ${B}^{0}$ mesons, ${a}_{\mathrm{sl}}^{d}$, using two independent decay channels: ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}{D}^{\ensuremath{-}}X$, with ${D}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$; and ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}{D}^{*\ensuremath{-}}X$, with ${D}^{*\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{D}}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, ${\overline{D}}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ (and charge conjugate processes). We use a data sample corresponding to $10.4\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ of $p\overline{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{TeV}$, collected with the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We extract the charge asymmetries in these two channels as a function of the visible proper decay length of the ${B}^{0}$ meson, correct for detector-related asymmetries using data-driven methods, and account for dilution from charge-symmetric processes using Monte Carlo simulation. The final measurement combines four signal visible proper decay length regions for each channel, yielding ${a}_{\mathrm{sl}}^{d}=[0.68\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.45(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.14(\mathrm{syst})]%$. This is the single most precise measurement of this parameter, with uncertainties smaller than the current world average of $B$ factory measurements.

Implications of LHC data on 125 GeV Higgs-like boson for the Standard Model and its various extensions
Recent data on 125 GeV Higgs-like boson at the LHC starts to constrain the electroweak symmetry breaking sector of the SM and its various extensions. If one imposes the local gauge symmetry of the Standard Model (SM) ($SU(3)_c \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$) to the SM and any possible new physics scenarios, the SM Higgs properties will be modified by intrinsically two different ways: by new physics either coupling directly to the SM Higgs boson $h$, or affecting indirectly the SM Higgs properties through the mixing of $h$ with a SM singlet scalar $s$. The models of two Higgs doublet, extra sequential and mirror fermions belong to the first category, whereas the models with a hidden sector dark matter, extra vector-like fermions and new charged vector bosons, which can enhance the diphoton rate of the SM Higgs-like resonance, belong to the second category. We perform a global fit to data in terms of the effective Lagrangian description of two interaction eigenstates of scalar bosons, a SM Higgs and a singlet scalar, and their mixing. This framework is more suitable to study singlet-extended scenarios discussed above compared to other approaches based on the Lagrangian of mass eigenstates. With fairly model-independent assumptions, the effective Lagrangian contains at most four free parameters still encompassing the majority of models in the literature. Interestingly, the SM gives the best fit if all data from ATLAS and CMS are used, whereas various singlet extensions can fit better to individual ATLAS or CMS data. Without further assumptions, an upper bound on the total width (or, non-standard branching ratio) is generically obtained. Furthermore, global fit based on our parameterization can be used to probe interactions of the singlet scalar if the singlet resides below $2m_W$.

We measure the mass of the top quark in lepton+jets final states using the full sample of $p\bar{p}$ collision data collected by the D0 experiment in Run~II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at $\sqrt s=1.96~$TeV, corresponding to $9.7~{\rm fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. We use a matrix element technique that calculates the probabilities for each event to result from $t\bar t$ production or background. The overall jet energy scale is constrained in situ by the mass of the $W$ boson. We measure $m_t=174.98\pm0.76~{\rm GeV}$. This constitutes the most precise single measurement of the top-quark mass.

Measurement of the top quark mass in the dilepton channel
We report a measurement of the top quark mass using six candidate events for the process $p\overline{p}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}t\overline{t}+\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{X}{l}^{+}\ensuremath{\nu}{\mathrm{bl}}^{\ensuremath{-}}\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}\overline{b}+X$, observed in the D0 experiment at the Fermilab $p\overline{p}$ collider. Using maximum likelihood fits to the dynamics of the decays, we measure a mass for the top quark of ${m}_{t}=168.4\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}12.3(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}3.6(\mathrm{syst}) \mathrm{Gev}$. We combine this result with our previous measurement in the $t\overline{t}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}l+\mathrm{jets}$ channel to obtain ${m}_{t}=172.1\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}7.1 \mathrm{GeV}$ as the best value of the mass of the top quark measured by D0.

We report a new measurement of the pseudorapidity (eta) and transverse-energy ( E(T)) dependence of the inclusive jet production cross section in pp(macro) collisions at square root of s = 1.8 TeV using 95 pb(-1) of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The differential cross section d(2)sigma/(dE(T)d eta) is presented up to eta = 3, significantly extending previous measurements. The results are in good overall agreement with next-to-leading order predictions from QCD and indicate a preference for certain parton distribution functions.

We report a new measurement of the cross section for the production of isolated photons with transverse energies ( E(gamma)(T)) above 10 GeV and pseudorapidities |eta|<2.5 in p&pmacr; collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.8 TeV. The results are based on a data sample of 107.6 pb(-1) recorded during 1992-1995 with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The background, predominantly from jets which fragment to neutral mesons, was estimated using the longitudinal shower shape of photon candidates in the calorimeter. The measured cross section is in good agreement with the next-to-leading order QCD calculation for E(gamma)(T) greater, similar36 GeV.

The $a$ bosons are required to either both decay to ${\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ or one to ${\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and the other to ${\ensuremath{\tau}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\tau}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$. We present a search for flavor changing neutral currents via quark-gluon couplings in a sample of single top quark final states corresponding to 2.3 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We select events containing a single top quark candidates with an additional jet, and obtain separation between signal and background using Bayesian neural networks. We find consistency between background expectation and observed data, and set limits on flavor changing neutral current gluon couplings of the top quark to up quarks (tgu) and charm quarks (tgc). The cross section limits at the 95% C.L. are sigma_tgu<0.20pb and sigma_tgc<0.27pb. These correspond to limits on the top quark decay branching fractions of B(t->gu)<2.0*10^-4 and B(t->gc)<3.9*10^-3.

We present a new measurement of the Z/γ∗ transverse momentum distribution in the range 0–330 GeV, in proton–antiproton collisions at s=1.96TeV. The measurement uses 0.97 fb−1 of integrated luminosity recorded by the D0 experiment and is the first using the Z/γ∗→μ+μ−+X channel at this center-of-mass energy. This is also the first measurement of the Z/γ∗ transverse momentum distribution that presents the result at the level of particles entering the detector, minimizing dependence on theoretical models. As any momentum of the Z/γ∗ in the plane transverse to the incoming beams must be balanced by some recoiling system, primarily the result of QCD radiation in the initial state, this variable is an excellent probe of the underlying process. Tests of the predictions of QCD calculations and current event generators show they have varied success in describing the data. Using this measurement as an input to theoretical predictions will allow for a better description of hadron collider data and hence it will increase experimental sensitivity to rare signals.

We present a search for the production of a heavy gauge boson, W′, that decays to third-generation quarks, by D0 Collaboration in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96TeV. We set 95% confidence level upper limits on the production cross section times branching fraction. For the first time, we set limits for arbitrary combinations of left- and right-handed couplings of the W′ boson to fermions. For couplings with the same strength as for the standard model W boson, we set the following limits, assuming that there are right-handed neutrinos νR for all three generations with M(W′)>m(νR): M(W′)>863GeV for purely left-handed couplings, M(W′)>885GeV for purely right-handed couplings, and M(W′)>916GeV if both left- and right-handed couplings are present. The limit for right-handed couplings improves for M(W′)<m(νR) to M(W′)>890GeV.

Precision Measurement of the RatioB(t→Wb)/B(t→Wq)and Extraction ofVtb
We present a measurement of the ratio of top quark branching fractions R = B(t -> Wb)/B(t -> Wq), where q can be a d, s or b quark, in the lepton+jets and dilepton ttbar final states. The measurement uses data from 5.4 fb-1 of ppbar collisions collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We measure R = 0.90 +/- 0.04, and we extract the CKM matrix element |Vtb| as |Vtb| = 0.95 +/- 0.02, assuming unitarity of the 3x3 CKM matrix.

Measurement of angular correlations of jets at s=1.96 TeV and determination of the strong coupling at high momentum transfers
We present a measurement of the average value of a new observable at hadron colliders that is sensitive to QCD dynamics and to the strong coupling constant, while being only weakly sensitive to parton distribution functions. The observable measures the angular correlations of jets and is defined as the number of neighboring jets above a given transverse momentum threshold which accompany a given jet within a given distance Delta-R in the plane of rapidity and azimuthal angle. The ensemble average over all jets in an inclusive jet sample is measured and the results are presented as a function of transverse momentum of the inclusive jets, in different regions of Delta-R and for different transverse momentum requirements for the neighboring jets. The measurement is based on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.7 fb-1 collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider in pp-bar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 The results are well described by a perturbative QCD calculation in next-to-leading order in the strong coupling constant, corrected for non-perturbative effects. From these results, we extract the strong coupling and test the QCD predictions for its running over a range of momentum transfers of 50-400 GeV.

We present a comprehensive analysis of inclusive W(\to e\nu)+n-jet (n\geq 1,2,3,4) production in proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Tevatron collider using a 3.7 fb^{-1} dataset collected by the D0 detector. Differential cross sections are presented as a function of the jet rapidities (y), lepton transverse momentum (p_T) and pseudorapidity (\eta), the scalar sum of the transverse energies of the W boson and all jets (H_T), leading dijet p_T and invariant mass, dijet rapidity separations for a variety of jet pairings for p_T-ordered and angular-ordered jets, dijet opening angle, dijet azimuthal angular separations for p_T-ordered and angular-ordered jets, and W boson transverse momentum. The mean number of jets in an event containing a W boson is measured as a function of H_T, and as a function of the rapidity separations between the two highest-p_T jets and between the most widely separated jets in rapidity. Finally, the probability for third-jet emission in events containing a W boson and at least two jets is studied by measuring the fraction of events in the inclusive W+2-jet sample that contain a third jet over a p_T threshold. The analysis employs a regularized singular value decomposition technique to accurately correct for detector effects and for the presence of backgrounds. The corrected data are compared to particle level next-to-leading order perturbative QCD predictions, predictions from all-order resummation approaches, and a variety of leading-order and matrix-element plus parton-shower event generators. Regions of the phase space where there is agreement or disagreement with the data are discussed for the different models tested.

We present measurements of lepton ($\ensuremath{\ell}$) angular distributions in top-quark ($t$) pair production and $t\overline{t}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{W}^{+}b{W}^{\ensuremath{-}}\overline{b}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{+}\ensuremath{\nu}b{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{\ensuremath{-}}\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}\overline{b}$ decays produced in $p\overline{p}$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=1.96\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{TeV}$, where $\ensuremath{\ell}$ is an electron or muon. Using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $5.4\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$, collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, we measure for the first time the leptonic forward-backward asymmetry in dilepton final states and obtain ${A}_{\mathrm{FB}}^{\ensuremath{\ell}}=(5.8\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}5.1(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.3(\mathrm{syst}))%$, corrected for detector acceptance. This is compared to the standard model prediction of ${A}_{\mathrm{FB}}^{\ensuremath{\ell}}(\mathrm{predicted})=(4.7\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.1)%$. A deviation from the standard model prediction as previously seen in a D0 measurement based on the analysis of the $\ensuremath{\ell}+\mathrm{\text{jets}}$ final state is not observed in these dilepton final states. The two results differ from each other by 1.4 standard deviations and are combined to obtain ${A}_{\mathrm{FB}}^{\ensuremath{\ell}}=(11.8\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}3.2)%$. Measurements of bottomonium production in heavy-ion and p+p collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) are presented. The inclusive yield of the three Υ states, Υ(1S+2S+3S), was measured in the PHENIX experiment via electron-positron decay pairs at midrapidity for Au+Au and p+p collisions at √sNN=200 GeV. The Υ(1S+2S+3S)→e+e− differential cross section at midrapidity was found to be Beedσ/dy=108±38(stat)±15(syst)±11(luminosity) pb in p+p collisions. The nuclear modification factor in the 30% most central Au+Au collisions indicates a suppression of the total Υ state yield relative to the extrapolation from p+p collision data. The suppression is consistent with measurements made by STAR at RHIC and at higher energies by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider.10 MoreReceived 17 May 2014DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevC.91.024913©2015 American Physical Society

The production of top quark-antiquark pair events in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV is studied as a function of the transverse momentum and absolute value of the rapidity of the top quarks as well as of the invariant mass of the $t\bar{t}$ pair. We select events containing an isolated lepton, a large imbalance in transverse momentum, and four or more jets with at least one jet identified to originate from a $b$ quark. The data sample corresponds to 9.7 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity recorded with the D0 detector during Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Infrared safety of a neural-net top tagging algorithm
A bstract Neural network-based algorithms provide a promising approach to jet classification problems, such as boosted top jet tagging. To date, NN-based top taggers demonstrated excellent performance in Monte Carlo studies. In this paper, we construct a top-jet tagger based on a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and apply it to parton-level boosted top samples, with and without an additional gluon in the final state. We show that the jet observable defined by the CNN obeys the canonical definition of infrared safety: it is unaffected by the presence of the extra gluon, as long as it is soft or collinear with one of the quarks. Our results indicate that the CNN tagger is robust with respect to possible mis-modeling of soft and collinear final-state radiation by Monte Carlo generators.

We present a measurement of the $t\overline{t}$ production cross section in $p\overline{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}1.8\mathrm{TeV}$ by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. The measurement is based on data from an integrated luminosity of approximately $125{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ accumulated during the 1992--1996 collider run. We observe 39 $t\overline{t}$ candidate events in the dilepton and $\mathrm{lepton}+\mathrm{jets}$ decay channels with an expected background of $13.7\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}2.2$ events. For a top quark mass of $173.3\mathrm{GeV}{/c}^{2}$, we measure the $t\overline{t}$ production cross section to be $5.5\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.8\mathrm{pb}$.

Bottom-quark production in $\overline{p}p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}1.8\mathrm{TeV}$ is studied with $5{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ of data collected in 1995 by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The differential production cross section for $b$ jets in the central rapidity region ( $|{y}^{b}|<1$) as a function of jet transverse energy is extracted from a muon-tagged jet sample. Search for Large Extra Dimensions in Dielectron and Diphoton Production
We report a search for effects of large extra spatial dimensions in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.8 TeV with the D0 detector, using events containing a pair of electrons or photons. The data are in good agreement with the expected background and do not exhibit evidence for large extra dimensions. We set the most restrictive lower limits to date, at the 95% C.L. on the effective Planck scale between 1.0 and 1.4 TeV for several formalisms and numbers of extra dimensions.

Results are presented from analyses of jet data produced in pp ¯collisions at ͱsϭ630 and 1800 GeV collected with the DØ detector during the 1994 -1995 Fermilab Tevatron Collider run.We discuss the details of detector calibration, and jet selection criteria in measurements of various jet production cross sections at ͱsϭ630 and 1800 GeV.The inclusive jet cross sections, the dijet mass spectrum, the dijet angular distribu- tions, and the ratio of inclusive jet cross sections at ͱsϭ630 and 1800 GeV are compared to next-to-leading- order QCD predictions. The order ␣ s 3 calculations are in good agreement with the data.We also use the data at ͱsϭ1800 GeV to rule out models of quark compositeness with a contact interaction scale less than 2.2 TeV at the 95% confidence level.

We report on measurements on inclusive cross sections times branching fractions into electrons for W and Z bosons produced in pp¯ collisions at s=1.8TeV. From an integrated luminosity of 84.5 pb−1 recorded in 1994–1995 using the DØ detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, we determine σ(pp¯→W+X)×B(W→eν)=2310±10(stat)±50(syst)±100(lum)pb and σ(pp¯→Z+X)×B(Z→ee)=221±3(stat)±4(syst)±10(lum)pb. From these, we derive σ(pp¯→W+X)×B(W→eν)/σ(pp¯→Z+X)×B(Z→ee)=10.43±0.15(stat)±0.20(syst)±0.10(NLO), B(W→eν)=0.1044±0.0015(stat)±0.0020(syst)±0.0017(theory)±0.0010(NLO), and ΓW=2.169±0.031(stat)±0.042(syst)±0.041(theory)±0.022(NLO)GeV. We use the latter to set a 95% confidence level upper limit on the partial decay width of the W boson into nonstandard model final states, ΓWinv, of 0.213 GeV. Combining these results with those from the 1992–1993 data gives σ(pp¯→W+X)×B(W→eν)/σ(pp¯→Z+X)×B(Z→ee)=10.51±0.25, ΓW=2.152±0.066GeV, and a 95% C.L. upper limit on ΓWinv of 0.191 GeV. Using a sample with a luminosity of 505 nb−1 taken at s=630GeV, we measure σ(pp¯→W+X)×B(W→eν)=658±67pb. Factorization and polarization in linearized gravity
We investigate all the four-body graviton interaction processes: $gX\rightarrow \gamma X$, $gX\rightarrow gX$, and $gg\rightarrow gg$ with $X$ as an elementary particle of spin less than two in the context of linearized gravity except the spin-3/2 case. We show explicitly that gravitational gauge invariance and Lorentz invariance cause every four-body graviton scattering amplitude to be factorized. We explore the implications of this factorization property by investigating polarization effects through the covariant density matrix formalism in each four-body graviton scattering process.

Measurement of the High-Mass Drell-Yan Cross Section and Limits on Quark-Electron Compositeness Scales
We present a measurement of the Drell-Yan cross section at high dielectron invariant mass using $120\mathrm{pb}{}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ of data collected in $p\overline{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}1.8\mathrm{TeV}$ by the D0 Collaboration during 1992--1996. No deviation from standard model expectations is observed. We use the data to set limits on the quark-electron compositeness scale. The $95%$ confidence level lower limits on the compositeness scale vary between 3.3 and 6.1 TeV depending on the assumed form of the effective contact interaction.

Determination of the absolute jet energy scale in the DØ calorimeters
The DØ detector is used to study pp̄ collisions at the 1800 and 630 GeV center-of-mass energies available at the Fermilab Tevatron. To measure jets, the detector uses a sampling calorimeter composed of uranium and liquid argon as the passive and active media, respectively. Understanding the jet energy calibration is not only crucial for precision tests of QCD, but also for the measurement of particle masses and the determination of physics backgrounds associated with new phenomena. This paper describes the energy calibration of jets observed with the DØ detector at the two pp̄ center-of-mass energies in the transverse energy and pseudorapidity range ET>8 GeV and |η|<3.

Neutrino oscillations andR-parity violating collider signals
$R$-parity and $L$ violation in the MSSM could be the origin of the neutrino oscillation observed in Super-Kamiokande. A distinctive feature of this framework is that it can be tested in colliders by observing decay products of the destabilized LSP. We examine all the possible decay processes of the neutralino LSP assuming that the bilinear contribution to neutrino masses dominates over the trilinear one which gives rise to the solar neutrino mass. We find that it is possible to probe neutrino oscillations through colliders in most of the $R$-parity conserving MSSM parameter space.

We examine properties of tt¯ candidate events in lepton + jets final states to establish the helicities of W bosons in t→W+b decays. Our analysis is based on a direct calculation of a probability density for each event to correspond to a tt¯ final state, as a function of the helicity of the W boson. Using the 125 events/pb of data collected by the DØ experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron pp¯ Collider at s=1.8TeV, we obtain a longitudinal helicity fraction F0=0.56±0.31, consistent with the prediction of F0=0.70 from the standard model.

Search for new particles in the two-jet decay channel with the DØ detector
We present the results of a search for the production of new particles decaying into two jets in $\overline{p}p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.8\mathrm{TeV},$ using the D\O{} 1992--1995 data set corresponding to ${109\mathrm{}\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}.$ We exclude at the 95% confidence level the production of excited quarks ${(q}^{*})$ with masses below 775 GeV/${c}^{2},$ the most restrictive limit to date. We also exclude standard-model-like ${W}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ ${(Z}^{\ensuremath{'}})$ bosons with masses between 300 and 800 GeV/${c}^{2}$ (400 and 640 GeV/${c}^{2}).$ A ${W}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ boson with mass $<786\mathrm{GeV}{/c}^{2}$ has been excluded by previous measurements, and our lower limit is therefore the most stringent to date.

The neutralino sector in the U(1)-extended supersymmetric Standard Model
Motivated by grand unified theories and string theories we analyze the general structure of the neutralino sector in the USSM, an extension of the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model that involves a broken extra U(1) gauge symmetry. This supersymmetric U(1)-extended model includes an Abelian gauge superfield and a Higgs singlet superfield in addition to the standard gauge and Higgs superfields of the MSSM. The interactions between the MSSM fields and the new fields are in general weak and the mixing is small, so that the coupling of the two subsystems can be treated perturbatively. As a result, the mass spectrum and mixing matrix in the neutralino sector can be analyzed analytically and the structure of this 6-state system is under good theoretical control. We describe the decay modes of the new states and the impact of this extension on decays of the original MSSM neutralinos, including radiative transitions in cross-over zones. Production channels in cascade decays at the LHC and pair production at e+e− colliders are also discussed.

We report the results of a search for pair production of scalar bottom quarks (b˜1) and scalar third-generation leptoquarks (LQ3) in 5.2 fb−1 of pp¯ collisions at the D0 experiment of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Scalar bottom quarks are assumed to decay to a neutralino (χ˜10) and a b quark, and we set 95% C.L. lower limits on their production in the (mb˜1, mχ˜10) mass plane such as mb˜1>247 GeV for mχ˜10=0 and mχ˜10>110 GeV for 160<mb˜1<200 GeV. The leptoquarks are assumed to decay to a tau neutrino and a b quark, and we set a 95% C.L. lower limit of 247 GeV on the mass of a charge-1/3 third-generation scalar leptoquark.

Determination of the Width of the Top Quark
We extract the total width of the top quark, Γ(t), from the partial decay width Γ(t → Wb) measured using the t-channel cross section for single top-quark production and from the branching fraction B(t → Wb) measured in tt events using up to 2.3 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 Collaboration at the Tevatron pp Collider. The result is Γ(t) = 1.99(-0.55)(+0.69) GeV, which translates to a top-quark lifetime of τ(t) = (3.3(-0.9)(+1.3)) × 10(-25) s. Assuming a high mass fourth generation b' quark and unitarity of the four-generation quark-mixing matrix, we set the first upper limit on |V(tb')| < 0.63 at 95% C.L.

We present searches for the anomalous γWW and ZWW trilinear gauge boson couplings from WW and WZ production using lepton plus dijet final states and a combination with results from Wγ, WW, and WZ production with leptonic final states. The analyzed data correspond to up to 8.6fb−1 of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 detector in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96TeV. We set the most stringent limits at a hadron collider to date assuming two different relations between the anomalous coupling parameters Δκγ, λ, and Δg1Z for a cutoff energy scale Λ=2TeV. The combined 68% C.L. limits are −0.057<Δκγ<0.154, −0.015<λ<0.028, and −0.008<Δg1Z<0.054 for the LEP parameterization, and −0.007<Δκ<0.081 and −0.017<λ<0.028 for the equal couplings parameterization. We present measurements of the differential cross section dσ/dpTγ for the inclusive production of a photon in association with a b-quark jet for photons with rapidities |yγ|<1.0 and 30<pTγ<300GeV, as well as for photons with 1.5<|yγ|<2.5 and 30<pTγ<200GeV, where pTγ is the photon transverse momentum. The b-quark jets are required to have pT>15GeV and rapidity |yjet|<1.5. We present a measurement of the relative branching fraction, ${R}_{{f}_{0}/\ensuremath{\phi}}$, of ${B}_{s}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}J/\ensuremath{\psi}{f}_{0}(980)$, with ${f}_{0}(980)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, to the process ${B}_{s}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}J/\ensuremath{\psi}\ensuremath{\phi}$, with $\ensuremath{\phi}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$. The $J/\ensuremath{\psi}{f}_{0}(980)$ final state corresponds to a $CP$-odd eigenstate of ${B}_{s}^{0}$ that could be of interest in future studies of $CP$ violation. Using $8\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ of data recorded with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, we find ${R}_{{f}_{0}/\ensuremath{\phi}}=0.275\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.041(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.061(\mathrm{syst})$.

Combined Search for the Standard Model Higgs Boson Decaying tobb¯Using the D0 Run II Data Set
We present the results of the combination of searches for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a W or Z boson and decaying into b bbar using the data sample collected with the D0 detector in p pbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We derive 95% CL upper limits on the Higgs boson cross section relative to the standard model prediction in the mass range 100 GeV <= M_H <= 150 GeV, and we exclude Higgs bosons with masses smaller than 102 GeV at the 95% CL. In the mass range 120 GeV <= M_H <= 145 GeV the data exhibit an excess above the background prediction with a global significance of 1.5 standard deviations, consistent with the expectation in the presence of a standard model Higgs boson.

Search for Squarks and Gluinos in Events Containing Jets and a Large Imbalance in Transverse Energy
Using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $79{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$, D0 has searched for events containing multiple jets and large missing transverse energy in $p\overline{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}1.8\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}\mathrm{TeV}$ at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. Observing no significant excess beyond what is expected from the standard model, we set limits on the masses of squarks and gluinos and on the model parameters ${m}_{0}$ and ${m}_{1/2}$, in the framework of the minimal low-energy supergravity models of supersymmetry. For $\mathrm{tan}\ensuremath{\beta}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}2$ and ${A}_{0}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}0$, with $\ensuremath{\mu}<0$, we exclude all models with ${m}_{\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{q}}<250\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}\mathrm{GeV}{/c}^{2}$. For models with equal squark and gluino masses, we exclude $m<260\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}\mathrm{GeV}{/c}^{2}$.

We present a measurement of the differential cross section as a function of transverse momentum of the Z boson in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV using data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider during 1994--1996. We find good agreement between our data and the NNLO resummation prediction and extract values of the non-perturbative parameters for the resummed prediction from a fit to the differential cross section.

Ratio of Isolated Photon Cross Sections in pp¯ Collisions at √s=630 and 1800 GeV
The inclusive cross section for production of isolated photons has been measured in pp macro collisions at square root of s = 630 GeV with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The photons span a transverse energy (E(T)) range from 7-49 GeV and have pseudorapidity absolute value of eta < 2.5. This measurement is combined with the previous D0 result at square root of s = 1800 GeV to form a ratio of the cross sections. Comparison of next-to-leading-order QCD with the measured cross section at 630 GeV and the ratio of cross sections show satisfactory agreement in most of the E(T) range.

We have performed a search for neutral Higgs bosons produced in association with bottom quarks in pp collisions, using 260 pb-1 of data collected with the D0 detector in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The cross sections for these processes are enhanced in many extensions of the standard model (SM), such as in its minimal supersymmetric extension at large tanbeta. The results of our analysis agree with expectations from the SM, and we use our measurements to set upper limits on the production of neutral Higgs bosons in the mass range of 90 to 150 GeV.

We set upper limits on the t' ̄t' production cross section that exclude at the 95% C.L. a t' quark that decays exclusively to W+jet with a mass below 285 GeV. We present measurements of direct photon pair production cross sections using 8.5 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron $p \bar p$ collider. The results are presented as differential distributions of the photon pair invariant mass $d\sigma/dM_{\gamma \gamma}$, pair transverse momentum $d \sigma /dp^{\gamma \gamma}_T$, azimuthal angle between the photons $d\sigma/d\Delta \phi_{\gamma \gamma}$, and polar scattering angle in the Collins-Soper frame $d\sigma /d|\cos \theta^*|$. Measurements are performed for isolated photons with transverse momenta $p^{\gamma}_T>18 ~(17)$ GeV for the leading (next-to-leading) photon in $p_T$, pseudorapidities $|\eta^{\gamma}|<0.9$, and a separation in $\eta-\phi$ space $\Delta\mathcal R_{\gamma\gamma} > 0.4$. We present comparisons with the predictions from Monte Carlo event generators {\sc diphox} and {\sc resbos} implementing QCD calculations at next-to-leading order, $2\gamma${\sc nnlo} at next-to-next-to-leading order, and {\sc sherpa} using matrix elements with higher-order real emissions matched to parton shower.

The neutrino longitudinal momentum is determined by using a neutrino weighting method, and the asymmetry is measured as a function of the W boson rapidity. The measurement extends over wider electron pseudorapidity region than previous results and is the most precise to date, allowing for precise determination of proton parton distribution functions in global fits.

A measurement of the cross section for production of single, isolated photons is reported for transverse energies in the range of 10--125 GeV for two regions of pseudorapidity, $|\ensuremath{\eta}|<0.9$ and $1.6<|\ensuremath{\eta}|<2.5$. The data represent $12.9{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ of integrated luminosity accumulated in $\overline{p}p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}1.8\mathrm{TeV}$ and recorded with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The background, predominantly from jets which fragment to neutral mesons, is estimated using the longitudinal shower shape in the calorimeter. In both pseudorapidity regions the cross section is found to agree with the next-to-leading order QCD prediction for $30\ensuremath{\lesssim}{E}_{T}^{\ensuremath{\gamma}}\ensuremath{\lesssim}80\mathrm{GeV}$.

Observability of the lightest MSSM Higgs boson with explicit CP violation via gluon fusion at the LHC
We investigate the observability of the lightest Higgs boson in the gluon-fusion channel at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model with explicit CP-violating mixing among three neutral Higgs bosons. The lightest Higgs boson with its mass less than 130 GeV can be detected at the LHC via its gluon-fusion production followed by the decay into two photons. The explicit CP violation can suppress both the production cross section and the two-photon decay branching fraction so significantly that the signal cross section may be more than ten times smaller than the SM signal. This reduction factor can be as small as 1/40 if the lightest Higgs boson mass is 115 GeV and its production cross section at LEP2 is more than 90% that of the SM case.

ImprovedWboson mass measurement with the DØ detector
We have measured the W boson mass using the DØ detector and a data sample of 82 pb−1 from the Fermilab Tevatron collider. This measurement uses W→eν decays, where the electron is close to a boundary of a central electromagnetic calorimeter module. Such “edge” electrons have not been used in any previous DØ analysis, and represent a 14% increase in the W boson sample size. For these electrons, new response and resolution parameters are determined, and revised backgrounds and underlying event energy flow measurements are made. When the current measurement is combined with previous DØ W boson mass measurements, we obtain MW=80.483±0.084 GeV. The 8% improvement from the previous DØ measurement is primarily due to the improved determination of the response parameters for non-edge electrons using the sample of Z bosons with non-edge and edge electrons.Received 10 April 2002DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.66.012001©2002 American Physical Society

Probing the top-quark electric dipole moment at a photon linear collider
We probe the top-quark electric dipole moment (EDM) in top-quark pair production via photon-photon fusion at a photon linear collider. We show how linearly-polarized photon beams can be used to extract information on the top-quark EDM without the use of complicated angular correlations of top-quark decay products. If the luminosity of the laser back-scattered photon-photon collisions is comparable to that of the e+e− collisions, then the measurement of the top-quark EDM obtained by counting top-quark-production events in photon fusion can be as accurate as the measurement obtained by studying the tt decay correlations in e+e− collisions using a perfect detector.

We present a search for electroweak production of single top quarks in the s-channel and t-channel using neural networks for signal–background separation. We have analyzed 230 pb−1 of data collected with the DØ detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV and find no evidence for a single top quark signal. The resulting 95% confidence level upper limits on the single top quark production cross sections are 6.4 pb in the s-channel and 5.0 pb in the t-channel.

We present a measurement of the top quark pair (tt¯) production cross section (σtt¯) in pp¯ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV using 230 pb−1 of data collected by the DØ detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We select events with one charged lepton (electron or muon), large missing transverse energy, and at least four jets, and extract the tt¯ content of the sample based on the kinematic characteristics of the events. For a top quark mass of 175 GeV, we measure σtt¯=6.7−1.3+1.4(stat)−1.1+1.6(syst)±0.4(lumi)pb, in good agreement with the standard model prediction.

Search for anomalous Wtb couplings in single top quark production in <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" altimg="si1.gif" overflow="scroll"><mml:mi>p</mml:mi><mml:mover accent="true"><mml:mi>p</mml:mi><mml:mo>¯</mml:mo></mml:mover></mml:math> collisions at <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" altimg="si2.gif" overflow="scroll"><mml:msqrt><mml:mi>s</mml:mi></mml:msqrt><mml:mo>=</mml:mo><mml:mn>1.96</mml:mn><mml:mtext> TeV</mml:mtext></mml:math>
We present new direct constraints on a general $Wtb$ interaction using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the D0 detector at the Tevatron $p\bar{p}$ collider. The standard model provides a purely left-handed vector coupling at the $Wtb$ vertex, while the most general, lowest dimension Lagrangian allows right-handed vector and left- or right-handed tensor couplings as well. We obtain precise limits on these anomalous couplings by comparing the data to the expectations from different assumptions on the $Wtb$ coupling.

Search for Doubly Charged Higgs Boson Pair Production inpp¯Collisions ats=1.96 TeV
We present a search for pair production of doubly charged Higgs bosons in the processes $q\overline{q}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{H}^{++}{H}^{--}$ decaying through ${H}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\tau}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\tau}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}},{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\tau}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}},{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$. The search is performed in $p\overline{p}$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=1.96\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{TeV}$ using an integrated luminosity of up to $7.0\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The results are used to set 95% C.L. limits on the pair production cross section of doubly charged Higgs bosons and on their mass for different ${H}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$ branching fractions. Models predicting different ${H}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$ decays are investigated. Assuming $\mathcal{B}({H}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\tau}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\tau}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}})=1$ yields an observed (expected) lower limit on the mass of a left-handed ${H}_{L}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$ boson of 128 (116) GeV and assuming $\mathcal{B}({H}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\tau}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}})=1$ the corresponding limits are 144 (149) GeV. In a model with $\mathcal{B}({H}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\tau}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\tau}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}})=\mathcal{B}({H}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\tau}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}})=\mathcal{B}({H}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}})=1/3$, we obtain $M({H}_{L}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}})>130\text{ }(138)\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}$.

Precise Measurement of the Top Quark Mass in the Dilepton Channel at D0
We measure the top quark mass (mt) in ppbar collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV using dilepton ttbar->W+bW-bbar->l+nubl-nubarbbar events, where l denotes an electron, a muon, or a tau that decays leptonically. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb-1 collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We obtain mt = 174.0 +- 1.8(stat) +- 2.4(syst) GeV, which is in agreement with the current world average mt = 173.3 +- 1.1 GeV. This is currently the most precise measurement of mt in the dilepton channel.

We present a new measurement of the $WZ\rightarrow \ell\nu\ell\ell$ ($\ell = e,\mu$) cross section and limits on anomalous triple gauge couplings. Using 4.1 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity of $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.96$ TeV, we observe 34 $WZ$ candidate events with an estimated background of $6.0 \pm 0.4$ events. We measure the $WZ$ production cross section to be $3.90^{+1.06}_{-0.90}$ pb, in good agreement with the standard model prediction. We find no evidence for anomalous $WWZ$ couplings and set 95% C.L. limits on the coupling parameters, $-0.075 < \lambda_{Z} < 0.093$ and $-0.027 < \Delta\kappa_{Z} < 0.080$, in the HISZ parameterization for a $\Lambda = 2$ TeV form factor scale. These are the best limits to date obtained from the direct measurement of the $WWZ$ vertex.

Search for Charged Massive Long-Lived Particles
We report on a search for charged massive long-lived particles (CMLLPs), based on 5.2 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron pp collider. We search for events in which one or more particles are reconstructed as muons but have speed and ionization energy loss (dE/dx) inconsistent with muons produced in beam collisions. CMLLPs are predicted in several theories of physics beyond the standard model. We exclude pair-produced long-lived gauginolike charginos below 267 GeV and Higgsino-like charginos below 217 GeV at 95% C.L., as well as long-lived scalar top quarks with mass below 285 GeV.
