Comparative characterization study of LYSO:Ce crystals for timing applications
Cerium-doped Lutetium-Yttrium Oxyorthosilicate (LYSO:Ce)is one of the most widely used Cerium-doped Lutetium based scintillation crystals. Initially developed for medical detectors it rapidly became attractive for High Energy Particle Physics (HEP) applications, especially in the frame of high luminosity particle colliders. In this paper, a comprehensive and systematic study of LYSO:Ce ($[Lu_{(1-x)}Y_x]_2SiO_5$:$Ce$) crystals is presented. It involves for the first time a large number of crystal samples (180) of the same size from a dozen of producers. The study consists of a comparative characterization of LYSO:Ce crystal products available on the market by mechanical, optical and scintillation measurements and aims specifically, to investigate key parameters of timing applications for HEP.

Mixing activity-calibrated and uncalibrated gamma-ray sources in efficiency calibration
A method to calibrate the absolute efficiency of HPGe detectors in a large energy range using both activity-calibrated and uncalibrated multienergy gamma-ray radioactive sources is presented. The adopted efficiency calibration function ε(E) has the simple form lnε(E)=a0+a1ln(E/EB)+a2ln2(E/EB). Different parameters a0 are simultaneously fitted to the activity-calibrated and uncalibrated sources experimental efficiency data by the least-squares method. As an application example, the calibration of a HPGe detector in the 500 to 3500 keV energy range using a 207Bi activity calibrated source and one uncalibrated 56Co source is described.

Gamma Spectroscopy and Gamma-Ray Intensity Determination for 48V
The 48V beta and electron capture decay was studied by gamma‐ray spectroscopy using targets of natural metallic titanium irradiated in the IPEN/CNEN‐SP Cyclotron Accelerator. The energies, in keV, and intensities, in photons per parent decay, of the observed gamma‐rays are: 802.85(3) − 0.00136(12), 928.34(6) − 0.00783(3), 944.135(12) − 0.07871(7), 983.526(5) − 0.9998(3), 1312.115(5) − 0.982(3), 1437.529(15) − 0.00120(3), 2240.396(16) − 0.2333(13), 2375.20(4) − 0.000087(3), 2420.93(4) − 0.000067(3). Two lines formerly assigned to the 48V decay, at 938 and 1063 keV, were not observed; their intensities’ upper limits determined in this experiment were 1⋅10−5 and 6⋅10−5 photons per parent decay, respectively.
