Combination of measurements of inclusive deep inelastic $${e^{\pm }p}$$ e ± p scattering cross sections and QCD analysis of HERA data
A combination is presented of all inclusive deep inelastic cross sections previously published by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations at HERA for neutral and charged current $$e^{\pm }p$$ scattering for zero beam polarisation. The data were taken at proton beam energies of 920, 820, 575 and 460 GeV and an electron beam energy of 27.5 GeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of about 1 fb $$^{-1}$$ and span six orders of magnitude in negative four-momentum-transfer squared, $$Q^2$$ , and Bjorken x. The correlations of the systematic uncertainties were evaluated and taken into account for the combination. The combined cross sections were input to QCD analyses at leading order, next-to-leading order and at next-to-next-to-leading order, providing a new set of parton distribution functions, called HERAPDF2.0. In addition to the experimental uncertainties, model and parameterisation uncertainties were assessed for these parton distribution functions. Variants of HERAPDF2.0 with an alternative gluon parameterisation, HERAPDF2.0AG, and using fixed-flavour-number schemes, HERAPDF2.0FF, are presented. The analysis was extended by including HERA data on charm and jet production, resulting in the variant HERAPDF2.0Jets. The inclusion of jet-production cross sections made a simultaneous determination of these parton distributions and the strong coupling constant possible, resulting in $$\alpha _s(M_Z^2)=0.1183 \pm 0.0009 \mathrm{(exp)} \pm 0.0005\mathrm{(model/parameterisation)} \pm 0.0012\mathrm{(hadronisation)} ^{+0.0037}_{-0.0030}\mathrm{(scale)}$$ . An extraction of $$xF_3^{\gamma Z}$$ and results on electroweak unification and scaling violations are also presented.

Combination and QCD analysis of charm and beauty production cross-section measurements in deep inelastic ep scattering at HERA
Measurements of open charm and beauty production cross sections in deep inelastic ep scattering at HERA from the H1 and ZEUS Collaborations are combined. Reduced cross sections are obtained in the kinematic range of negative four-momentum transfer squared of the photon $$2.5~\hbox {GeV}^2\le Q^2 \le 2000\, \hbox {GeV}^2$$ and Bjorken scaling variable $$3 \cdot 10^{-5} \le x_\mathrm{Bj} \le 5 \cdot 10^{-2}$$ . The combination method accounts for the correlations of the statistical and systematic uncertainties among the different datasets. Perturbative QCD calculations are compared to the combined data. A next-to-leading order QCD analysis is performed using these data together with the combined inclusive deep inelastic scattering cross sections from HERA. The running charm- and beauty-quark masses are determined as $$m_c(m_c) = 1.290^{+0.046}_{-0.041} \mathrm{(exp/fit)}$$ $${}^{+0.062}_{-0.014} \mathrm{(model)}$$ $${}^{+0.003}_{-0.031} \mathrm{(parameterisation)}$$ GeV and $$m_b(m_b) = 4.049^{+0.104}_{-0.109} \mathrm{(exp/fit)}$$ $${}^{+0.090}_{-0.032} \mathrm{(model)}$$ $${}^{+0.001}_{-0.031} \mathrm{(parameterisation)}~\mathrm{GeV}$$ .

Hadron calorimetry in the L3 detector
The characteristics of the L3 hadron calorimeter as realized in the observation of hadronic jets and other events from e+e− collisions at LEP are presented and discussed. The pattern-recognition algorithm utilizing the fine granulatiry of the calorimeter is described, and the observed overall resolution of 10.2% for hadron jets from Z decay is reported. The use of the calorimeter in providing information on muon energy losses is also noted.

The design and performance of the ZEUS micro vertex detector
In order to extend the tracking acceptance, to improve the primary and secondary vertex reconstruction and thus enhancing the tagging capabilities for short lived particles, the ZEUS experiment at the HERA Collider at DESY installed a silicon strip vertex detector. The barrel part of the detector is a 63 cm long cylinder with silicon sensors arranged around an elliptical beampipe. The forward part consists of four circular shaped disks. In total just over 200k channels are read out using 2.9m2 of silicon. In this report a detailed overview of the design and construction of the detector is given and the performance of the completed system is reviewed.

Search for single-top production in ep collisions at HERA
A search for single-top production, ep→etX, has been performed with the ZEUS detector at HERA using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.37 fb−1. No evidence for top production was found, consistent with the expectation from the Standard Model. Limits were computed for single-top production via flavour changing neutral current transitions involving a neutral electroweak vector boson, γ or Z. The result was combined with a previous ZEUS result yielding a total luminosity of 0.50 fb−1. A 95% credibility level upper limit of 0.13 pb was obtained for the cross section at the centre-of-mass energy of s=315 GeV.

Inclusive-jet photoproduction at HERA and determination of
Inclusive-jet cross sections have been measured in the reaction ep→e+jet+X for photon virtuality Q2<1 GeV2 and γp centre-of-mass energies in the region 142<Wγp<293 GeV with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 300 pb−1. Jets were identified using the kT, anti-kT or SIScone jet algorithms in the laboratory frame. Single-differential cross sections are presented as functions of the jet transverse energy, ETjet, and pseudorapidity, ηjet, for jets with ETjet>17 GeV and −1<ηjet<2.5. In addition, measurements of double-differential inclusive-jet cross sections are presented as functions of ETjet in different regions of ηjet. Next-to-leading-order QCD calculations give a good description of the measurements, except for jets with low ETjet and high ηjet. The influence of non-perturbative effects not related to hadronisation was studied. Measurements of the ratios of cross sections using different jet algorithms are also presented; the measured ratios are well described by calculations including up to O(αs2) terms. Values of αs(MZ) were extracted from the measurements and the energy-scale dependence of the coupling was determined. The value of αs(MZ) extracted from the measurements based on the kT jet algorithm is αs(MZ)=0.1206−0.0022+0.0023(exp.)−0.0035+0.0042(th.); the results from the anti-kT and SIScone algorithms are compatible with this value and have a similar precision.

Measurement of high-Q 2 charged current deep inelastic scattering cross sections with a longitudinally polarised positron beam at HERA
Measurements of the cross sections for charged current deep inelastic scattering in e + p collisions with a longitudinally polarised positron beam are presented. The measurements are based on a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 132 pb−1 collected with the ZEUS detector at HERA at a centre-of-mass energy of 318 GeV. The total cross section is presented at positive and negative values of the longitudinal polarisation of the positron beams. The single-differential cross-sections dσ/dQ 2, dσ/dx and dσ/dy are presented for Q 2>200 GeV2. The reduced cross-section $\tilde{\sigma}$ is presented in the kinematic range 200<Q 2<60 000 GeV2 and 0.006<x<0.562. The measurements agree well with the predictions of the Standard Model. The results are used to determine a lower limit on the mass of a hypothetical right-handed W boson.

Measurement of charm fragmentation fractions in photoproduction at HERA
A bstract The production of D 0 , D * + , D + , $ D_s^{+} $ and $ \Lambda_c^{+} $ charm hadrons and their antiparticles in ep scattering at HERA has been studied with the ZEUS detector, using a total integrated luminosity of 372 pb −1 . The fractions of charm quarks hadronising into a particular charm hadron were derived. In addition, the ratio of neutral to charged D -meson production rates, the fraction of charged D mesons produced in a vector state, and the stangeness-suppression factor have been determined. The measurements have been performed in the photoproduction regime. The charm hadrons were reconstructed in the range of transverse momentum p T &gt; 3 . 8 GeV and pseudorapidity | η | &lt; 1 . 6. The charm fragmentation fractions are compared to previous results from HERA and from e + e − experiments. The data support the hypothesis that fragmentation is independent of the production process.

Two-particle azimuthal correlations as a probe of collective behaviour in deep inelastic ep scattering at HERA
Two-particle azimuthal correlations have been measured in neutral current deep inelastic ep scattering with virtuality Q2> 5 GeV2 at a centre-of-mass energy $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 318 GeV recorded with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The correlations of charged particles have been measured in the range of laboratory pseudorapidity −1.5 < η < 2.0 and transverse momentum 0.1 < pT< 5.0 GeV and event multiplicities Nch up to six times larger than the average 〈Nch〉 ≈ 5. The two-particle correlations have been measured in terms of the angular observables cn{2} = 〈〈cosnΔφ〉〉, where n is between 1 and 4 and ∆φ is the relative azimuthal angle between the two particles. Comparisons with available models of deep inelastic scattering, which are tuned to reproduce inclusive particle production, suggest that the measured two-particle correlations are dominated by contributions from multijet production. The correlations observed here do not indicate the kind of collective behaviour recently observed at the highest RHIC and LHC energies in high-multiplicity hadronic collisions.

Inclusive-jet cross sections in NC DIS at HERA and a comparison of the <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" altimg="si1.gif" overflow="scroll"><mml:msub><mml:mi>k</mml:mi><mml:mi>T</mml:mi></mml:msub></mml:math>, anti-<mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" altimg="si2.gif" overflow="scroll"><mml:msub><mml:mi>k</mml:mi><mml:mi>T</mml:mi></mml:msub></mml:math> and SIScone jet algorithms
For the first time, differential inclusive-jet cross sections have been measured in neutral current deep inelastic ep scattering using the anti-kT and SIScone algorithms. The measurements were made for boson virtualities Q2>125 GeV2 with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 82 pb−1 and the jets were identified in the Breit frame. The performance and suitability of the jet algorithms for their use in hadron-like reactions were investigated by comparing the measurements to those performed with the kT algorithm. Next-to-leading-order QCD calculations give a good description of the measurements. Measurements of the ratios of cross sections using different jet algorithms are also presented; the measured ratios are well described by calculations including up to O(αs3) terms. Values of αs(MZ) were extracted from the data; the results are compatible with and have similar precision to the value extracted from the kT analysis.

Search for first-generation leptoquarks at HERA
A search for first-generation leptoquarks was performed in electron-proton and positron-proton collisions recorded with the ZEUS detector at HERA in 2003-2007 using an integrated luminosity of 366 pb^-1. Final states with an electron and jets or with missing transverse momentum and jets were analysed, searching for resonances or other deviations from the Standard Model predictions. No evidence for any leptoquark signal was found. The data were combined with data previously taken at HERA, resulting in a total integrated luminosity of 498 pb^-1. Limits on the Yukawa coupling, lambda, of leptoquarks were set as a function of the leptoquark mass for different leptoquark types within the Buchmueller-Rueckl-Wyler model. Leptoquarks with a coupling lambda=0.3 are excluded for masses up to 699 GeV.

Impact of jet-production data on the next-to-next-to-leading-order determination of HERAPDF2.0 parton distributions
Abstract The HERAPDF2.0 ensemble of parton distribution functions (PDFs) was introduced in 2015. The final stage is presented, a next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) analysis of the HERA data on inclusive deep inelastic ep scattering together with jet data as published by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations. The different sets of PDFs are presented, evaluated and compared. The consistency of the PDFs determined with and without the jet data demonstrates the consistency of HERA inclusive and jet-production cross-section data. The inclusion of the jet data reduced the uncertainty on the gluon PDF. Predictions based on the PDFs of HERAPDF2.0Jets NNLO give an excellent description of the jet-production data used as input.

Higgs self-coupling measurements at the FCC-hh
The hadron collider phase of the Future Circular Collider (FCC-hh) is a proton-proton collider operating at a center-of-mass energy of 100 TeV. It is one of the most ambitious projects planned for the rest of this century and offers ample opportunities in the hunt for new physics, both through its direct detection reach as well as through indirect evidence from precision measurements. Extracting a precision measurement of the Higgs self-coupling from the Higgs pair production cross-section will play a key role in our understanding of electroweak symmetry breaking, as the self-coupling gives insight into the nature of the Higgs potential. With the large data set of in total 30 $\text{ab}^{-1}$ which is envisioned to be collected during the FCC-hh runtime the Higgs self-coupling will be determined down to the percent level. This paper presents prospect studies for Higgs self-coupling measurements in the $b\bar{b} \gamma\gamma$ and $b\bar{b} \ell\ell + E_{\text{T}}^{\text{miss}}$ final states, with the combined, expected precision on the Higgs self-coupling modifier $\kappa_{\lambda}$ reaching 3.2-5.7% at 68% confidence level, assuming all other Higgs couplings follow their Standard Model expectations and depending on the systematic uncertainties assumed. This high precision is mostly driven by the $b\bar{b} \gamma\gamma$ final state analysis, while the $b\bar{b} \ell\ell + E_{\text{T}}^{\text{miss}}$ final state - newly studied for its FCC-hh prospects in this document - on its own reaches a maximum precision of roughly 20% on $\kappa_{\lambda}$.

Inclusive dijet cross sections in neutral current deep inelastic scattering at HERA
Single- and double-differential inclusive dijet cross sections in neutral current deep inelastic ep scattering have been measured with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 374 pb^-1. The measurement was performed at large values of the photon virtuality, Q^2, between 125 and 20000 GeV^2. The jets were reconstructed with the k_T cluster algorithm in the Breit reference frame and selected by requiring their transverse energies in the Breit frame, E_T,B^jet, to be larger than 8 GeV. In addition, the invariant mass of the dijet system, M_jj, was required to be greater than 20 GeV. The cross sections are described by the predictions of next-to-leading-order QCD.

Measurement of beauty production in DIS and extraction at ZEUS
Beauty production in deep inelastic scattering with events in which a muon and a jet are observed in the final state has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 114 pb^-1. The fraction of events with beauty quarks in the data was determined using the distribution of the transverse momentum of the muon relative to the jet. The cross section for beauty production was measured in the kinematic range of photon virtuality, Q^2 &gt; 2 Gev^2, and inelasticity, 0.05 &lt; y &lt; 0.7, with the requirement of a muon and a jet. Total and differential cross sections are presented and compared to QCD predictions. The beauty contribution to the structure function F_2 was extracted and is compared to theoretical predictions.

Measurement of the t dependence in exclusive photoproduction of <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" altimg="si1.gif" overflow="scroll"><mml:mi>ϒ</mml:mi><mml:mo stretchy="false">(</mml:mo><mml:mn>1</mml:mn><mml:mi>S</mml:mi><mml:mo stretchy="false">)</mml:mo></mml:math> mesons at HERA
The exclusive photoproduction reaction gamma p -> Upsilon(1S) p has been studied with the ZEUS detector in ep collisions at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 468 pb^-1. The measurement covers the kinematic range 60<W<220 GeV and Q^2<1 GeV^2, where W is the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy and Q^2 is the photon virtuality. The exponential slope, b, of the t dependence of the cross section, where t is the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex, has been measured, yielding b = 4.3 +2.0 -1.3 (stat.) +0.5 -0.6 (syst.) GeV^-2. This constitutes the first measurement of the t dependence of the gamma p -> Upsilon(1S) p cross section.

Measurements of neutral current cross sections for deep inelastic scattering in ${e}^{+}p$ collisions at HERA with a longitudinally polarized positron beam are presented. The single-differential cross-sections $d\ensuremath{\sigma}/d{Q}^{2}$, $d\ensuremath{\sigma}/dx$ and $d\ensuremath{\sigma}/dy$ and the reduced cross section $\stackrel{\texttildelow{}}{\ensuremath{\sigma}}$ are measured in the kinematic region ${Q}^{2}&gt;185\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{GeV}}^{2}$ and $y&lt;0.9$, where ${Q}^{2}$ is the four-momentum transfer squared, $x$ the Bjorken scaling variable and $y$ the inelasticity of the interaction. The measurements are performed separately for positively and negatively polarized positron beams. The measurements are based on an integrated luminosity of $135.5\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ collected with the ZEUS detector in 2006 and 2007 at a center-of-mass energy of 318 GeV. The structure functions ${\stackrel{\texttildelow{}}{F}}_{3}$ and ${F}_{3}^{\ensuremath{\gamma}Z}$ are determined by combining the ${e}^{+}p$ results presented in this paper with previously published ${e}^{\ensuremath{-}}p$ neutral current results. The asymmetry parameter ${A}^{+}$ is used to demonstrate the parity violation predicted in electroweak interactions. The measurements are well described by the predictions of the Standard Model.

Measurement of D*± production in deep inelastic scattering at HERA
A bstract The production of D *± mesons in deep inelastic ep scattering has been measured for exchanged photon virtualities 5 &lt; Q 2 &lt; 1000 GeV 2 , using an integrated luminosity of 363 pb −1 with the ZEUS detector at HERA. Differential cross sections have been measured and compared to next-to-leading-order QCD calculations. The cross-sections are used to extract the charm contribution to the proton structure functions, expressed in terms of the reduced charm cross section, $ \sigma_{\mathrm{red}}^{{c\overline{c}}} $ . Theoretical calculations based on fits to inclusive HERA data are compared to the results.

Production of the excited charm mesons and at HERA
The production of the excited charm mesons D1(2420) and D2⁎(2460) in ep collisions has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 373pb−1. The masses of the neutral and charged states, the widths of the neutral states, and the helicity parameter of D1(2420)0 were determined and compared with other measurements and with theoretical expectations. The measured helicity parameter of the D10 allows for some mixing of S- and D-waves in its decay to D⁎±π∓. The result is also consistent with a pure D-wave decay. Ratios of branching fractions of the two decay modes of the D2⁎(2460)0 and D2⁎(2460)± states were measured and compared with previous measurements. The fractions of charm quarks hadronising into D1 and D2⁎ were measured and are consistent with those obtained in e+e− annihilations.

Exclusive electroproduction of two pions at HERA
The exclusive electroproduction of two pions in the mass range 0.4 < M{\pi}{\pi} < 2.5 GeV has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 82 pb-1. The analysis was carried out in the kinematic range of 2 < Q2 < 80 GeV2, 32 < W < 180 GeV and |t| < 0.6 GeV2, where Q2 is the photon virtuality, W is the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy and t is the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex. The two-pion invariant-mass distribution is interpreted in terms of the pion electromagnetic form factor, |F(M{\pi}{\pi})|, assuming that the studied mass range includes the contributions of the {\rho}, {\rho}' and {\rho}" vector-meson states. The masses and widths of the resonances were obtained and the Q2 dependence of the cross-section ratios {\sigma}({\rho}' \rightarrow {\pi}{\pi})/{\sigma}({\rho}) and {\sigma}({\rho}" \rightarrow {\pi}{\pi})/{\sigma}({\rho}) was extracted. The pion form factor obtained in the present analysis is compared to that obtained in e+e- \rightarrow {\pi}+{\pi}-.

Production of exclusive dijets in diffractive deep inelastic scattering at HERA
Production of exclusive dijets in diffractive deep inelastic $$e^\pm p$$ scattering has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 372 pb $$^{-1}$$ . The measurement was performed for $$\gamma ^{*}$$ –p centre-of-mass energies in the range $$90< W < {250}\,{\mathrm{GeV}}$$ and for photon virtualities $$Q^2 > {25}\,{\mathrm{GeV}^{2}}$$ . Energy flows around the jet axis are presented. The cross section is presented as a function of $$\beta $$ and $$\phi $$ , where $$\beta =x/x_\mathrm{I\!P}$$ , x is the Bjorken variable and $$x_\mathrm{I\!P}$$ is the proton fractional longitudinal momentum loss. The angle $$\phi $$ is defined by the $$\gamma ^{*}$$ –dijet plane and the $$\gamma ^{*}$$ – $$e^\pm $$ plane in the rest frame of the diffractive final state. The $$\phi $$ cross section is measured in bins of $$\beta $$ . The results are compared to predictions from models based on different assumptions about the nature of the diffractive exchange.

Combined QCD and electroweak analysis of HERA data
A simultaneous fit of parton distribution functions (PDFs) and electroweak parameters to HERA data on deep inelastic scattering is presented. The input data are the neutral current and charged current inclusive cross sections which were previously used in the QCD analysis leading to the HERAPDF2.0 PDFs. In addition, the polarization of the electron beam was taken into account for the ZEUS data recorded between 2004 and 2007. Results on the vector and axial-vector couplings of the $Z$ boson to $u$- and $d$-type quarks, on the value of the electroweak mixing angle and the mass of the $W$ boson are presented. The values obtained for the electroweak parameters are in agreement with Standard Model predictions.

Probing effective field theory operators in the associated production of top quarks with a Z boson in multilepton final states at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV
A bstract A search for new top quark interactions is performed within the framework of an effective field theory using the associated production of either one or two top quarks with a Z boson in multilepton final states. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb − 1 of proton-proton collisions at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msqrt> <mml:mi>s</mml:mi> </mml:msqrt> </mml:math> = 13 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. Five dimension-six operators modifying the electroweak interactions of the top quark are considered. Novel machine-learning techniques are used to enhance the sensitivity to effects arising from these operators. Distributions used for the signal extraction are parameterized in terms of Wilson coefficients describing the interaction strengths of the operators. All five Wilson coefficients are simultaneously fit to data and 95% confidence level intervals are computed. All results are consistent with the SM expectations.

Measurement of the cross-section ratio σψ(2S)/σJ/ψ(1S) in exclusive photoproduction at HERA
The exclusive photoproduction reactions $\gamma p \to J/\psi(1S) p$ and $\gamma p \to \psi(2S) p$ have been measured at an $ep$ centre-of-mass energy of 318 GeV with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 373 pb$^{-1}$. The measurement was made in the kinematic range $30 < W < 180$ GeV, $Q^2 < 1$ GeV$^2$ and $|t| < 1$ GeV$^2$, where $W$ is the photon--proton centre-of-mass energy, $Q^2$ is the photon virtuality and $t$ is the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex. The decay channels used were $J/\psi(1S) \to \mu^+ \mu^-$, $\psi(2S) \to \mu^+ \mu^-$ and $\psi(2S) \to J/\psi(1S) \pi^+ \pi^-$ with subsequent decay $J/\psi(1S) \to \mu^+ \mu^-$. The ratio of the production cross sections, $R = \sigma_{\psi(2S)} / \sigma_{J/\psi(1S)}$, has been measured as a function of $W$ and $|t|$ and compared to previous data in photoproduction and deep inelastic scattering and with predictions of QCD-inspired models of exclusive vector-meson production, which are in reasonable agreement with the data.

Measurement of D + and Λ c + production in deep inelastic scattering at HERA
Charm production in deep inelastic scattering has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 120 pb−1. The hadronic decay channels D + → K S 0 π +, Λ c + → pK S 0 and Λ c + → Λπ +, and their charge conjugates, were reconstructed. The presence of a neutral strange hadron in the final state reduces the combinatorial background and extends the measured sensitivity into the low transverse momentum region. The kinematic range is 0 < p T (D +, Λ c +) < 10 GeV, |η(D +, Λ c +)| < 1.6, 1.5 < Q 2 < 1000 GeV2 and 0.02 < y < 0.7. Inclusive and differential cross sections for the production of D + mesons are compared to next-to-leading-order QCD predictions. The fraction of c quarks hadronising into Λ c + baryons is extracted.

Measurement of beauty production in deep inelastic scattering at HERA using decays into electrons
The production of beauty quarks in ep interactions has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA for exchanged four-momentum squared Q^2 > 10 GeV^2, using an integrated luminosity of 363 pb^{-1}. The beauty events were identified using electrons from semileptonic b decays with a transverse momentum 0.9 < p_T^e < 8 GeV and pseudorapidity |eta^e| < 1.5. Cross sections for beauty production were measured and compared with next-to-leading-order QCD calculations. The beauty contribution to the proton structure function F_2 was extracted from the double-differential cross section as a function of Bjorken-x and Q^2.

Measurement of heavy-quark jet photoproduction at HERA
Photoproduction of beauty and charm quarks in events with at least two jets has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 133 pb−1. The fractions of jets containing b and c quarks were extracted using the invariant mass of charged tracks associated with secondary vertices and the decay-length significance of these vertices. Differential cross sections as a function of jet transverse momentum, $p_{\mathrm {T}}^{\mathrm{jet}}$ , and pseudorapidity, η jet, were measured. The data are compared with previous measurements and are well described by next-to-leading-order QCD predictions.

Measurement of D ± production in deep inelastic ep scattering with the ZEUS detector at HERA
A bstract Charm production in deep inelastic ep scattering was measured with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 354 pb −1 . Charm quarks were identified by reconstructing D ± mesons in the D ± → K ∓ π ± π ± decay channel. Lifetime information was used to reduce combinatorial background substantially. Differential cross sections were measured in the kinematic region 5 &lt; Q 2 &lt; 1000 GeV 2 , 0 . 02 &lt; y &lt; 0 . 7, 1 . 5 &lt; p T ( D ± ) &lt; 15 GeV and | η ( D ± )| &lt; 1 . 6, where Q 2 is the photon virtuality, y is the inelasticity, and p T ( D ± ) and η ( D ± ) are the transverse momentum and the pseudorapidity of the D ± meson, respectively. Next-to-leading-order QCD predictions are compared to the data. The charm contribution, $ F_2^{{c\overline{c}}} $ , to the proton structure-function F 2 was extracted.

Measurement of the cross-section ratio σ ψ(2S) / σ J/ψ(1S) in deep inelastic exclusive ep scattering at HERA
The exclusive deep inelastic electroproduction of ψ(2S) and J/ψ(1S) at an ep centre-of-mass energy of 317 GeV has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA in the kinematic range 2<Q2<80 GeV2, 30<W<210 GeV and |t|<1 GeV2, where Q2 is the photon virtuality, W is the photon–proton centre-of-mass energy and t is the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex. The data for 2<Q2<5 GeV2 were taken in the HERA I running period and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 114 pb−1. The data for 5<Q2<80 GeV2 are from both HERA I and HERA II periods and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 468 pb−1. The decay modes analysed were μ+μ− and J/ψ(1S)π+π− for the ψ(2S) and μ+μ− for the J/ψ(1S). The cross-section ratio σψ(2S)/σJ/ψ(1S) has been measured as a function of Q2,W and t. The results are compared to predictions of QCD-inspired models of exclusive vector-meson production.

Limits on the effective quark radius from inclusive ep scattering at HERA
The high-precision HERA data allows searches up to TeV scales for beyond the Standard Model contributions to electron–quark scattering. Combined measurements of the inclusive deep inelastic cross sections in neutral and charged current ep scattering corresponding to a luminosity of around 1 fb−1 have been used in this analysis. A new approach to the beyond the Standard Model analysis of the inclusive ep data is presented; simultaneous fits of parton distribution functions together with contributions of “new physics” processes were performed. Results are presented considering a finite radius of quarks within the quark form-factor model. The resulting 95% C.L. upper limit on the effective quark radius is 0.43⋅10−16cm.

Measurement of isolated photons accompanied by jets in deep inelastic ep scattering
The production of isolated high-energy photons accompanied by jets has been measured in deep inelastic ep scattering with the ZEUS detector at HERA, using an integrated luminosity of 326pb−1. Measurements were made for exchanged photon virtualities, Q2, in the range 10 to 350GeV2. The photons were measured in the transverse-energy and pseudorapidity ranges 4<ETγ<15GeV and −0.7<ηγ<0.9, and the jets were measured in the transverse-energy and pseudorapidity ranges 2.5<ETjet<35GeV and −1.5<ηjet<1.8. Differential cross sections are presented as functions of these quantities. Perturbative QCD predictions give a reasonable description of the shape of the measured cross sections over most of the kinematic range, but the absolute normalisation is typically in disagreement by 20–30%.

Biological monitoring of exposure to low concentrations of benzene in workers at a metallurgical coke production plant: new insights into S-phenylmercapturic acid and urinary benzene
Context: Urinary S-phenylmercapturic acid (SPMA) and benzene (U-Ben) are usually measured at the end of the work shift (ES), although their kinetic of elimination is not clearly known.Objective: To investigate SPMA and U-Ben elimination 16 h after the ES, in 93 coke production workers exposed to low benzene concentrations.Materials and methods: Airborne benzene (A-Ben) was measured by passive samplings, while SPMA, U-Ben, methyl-tert-butyl ether (U-MTBE), cotinine (U-Cot) and creatinine were determined on urine samples collected at ES and before the beginning of the next work shift (next BS).Results: Median A-Ben concentrations were 17.2 µg/m3 in the personal and 34.7 µg/m3 in the stationary samplings. SPMA was always detectable, whereas U-Ben was below the limit of quantification in 26.7% of the ES and 35.6% of the next BS samples, and U-MTBE in more than the 80.0% of the samples. At both the sampling times, SPMA and U-Ben showed a positive dependence on personal A-Ben, as well as on creatinine and U-Cot values.Discussion and conclusion: SPMA and U-Ben at the next BS were dependent on the exposure to low benzene concentrations suffered in the previous work shift, prompting a reconsideration of the urine sampling time recommended by the American Conference Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH).

Limits on contact interactions and leptoquarks at HERA
High-precision HERA data corresponding to a luminosity of around $1\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ have been used in the framework of $eeqq$ contact interactions (CI) to set limits on possible high-energy contributions beyond the Standard Model to electron-quark scattering. Measurements of the inclusive deep inelastic cross sections in neutral and charged current $ep$ scattering were considered. The analysis of the $ep$ data has been based on simultaneous fits of parton distribution functions including contributions of CI couplings to $ep$ scattering. Several general CI models and scenarios with heavy leptoquarks were considered. Improvements in the description of the inclusive HERA data were obtained for a few models. Since a statistically significant deviation from the Standard Model cannot be established, limits in the TeV range were set on all models considered.

Study of proton parton distribution functions at high <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mml:mi>x</mml:mi></mml:math> using ZEUS data
At large values of $x$, the parton distribution functions (PDFs) of the proton are poorly constrained and there are considerable variations between different global fits. Data at such high $x$ have already been published by the ZEUS Collaboration, but not yet used in PDF extractions. A technique for comparing predictions based on different PDF sets to the observed number of events in the ZEUS data is presented. It is applied to compare predictions from the most commonly used PDFs to published ZEUS data at high Bjorken $x$. A wide variation is found in the ability of the PDFs to predict the observed results. A scheme for including the ZEUS high-$x$ data in future PDF extractions is discussed.

Search for effective Lorentz and <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mml:mi>C</mml:mi><mml:mi>P</mml:mi><mml:mi>T</mml:mi></mml:math> violation using ZEUS data
Lorentz and $CPT$ symmetry in the quark sector of the Standard Model are studied in the context of an effective field theory using ZEUS ${e}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}p$ data. Symmetry-violating effects can lead to time-dependent oscillations of otherwise time-independent observables, including scattering cross sections. An analysis using five years of inclusive neutral-current deep inelastic scattering events corresponding to an integrated HERA luminosity of $372\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ at $\sqrt{s}=318\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}$ has been performed. No evidence for oscillations in sidereal time has been observed within statistical and systematic uncertainties. Constraints, most for the first time, are placed on 42 coefficients parametrizing dominant $CPT$-even dimension-four and $CPT$-odd dimension-five spin-independent modifications to the propagation and interaction of light quarks.

Production of <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" altimg="si1.gif" overflow="scroll"><mml:msup><mml:mrow><mml:mi>Z</mml:mi></mml:mrow><mml:mrow><mml:mn>0</mml:mn></mml:mrow></mml:msup></mml:math> bosons in elastic and quasi-elastic ep collisions at HERA
The production of Z0 bosons in the reaction ep -> eZ0p*, where p* stands for a proton or a low-mass nucleon resonance, has been studied in ep collisions at HERA using the ZEUS detector. The analysis is based on a data sample collected between 1996 and 2007, amounting to 496 pb-1 of integrated luminosity. The Z0 was measured in the hadronic decay mode. The elasticity of the events was ensured by a cut on eta_max < 3.0, where eta_max is the maximum pseudorapidity of energy deposits in the calorimeter defined with respect to the proton beam direction. A signal was observed at the Z0 mass. The cross section of the reaction ep -> eZ0p* was measured to be sigma(ep -> eZ0p*) = 0.13 +/- 0.06 (stat.) +/- 0.01 (syst.) pb, in agreement with the Standard Model prediction of 0.16 pb. This is the first measurement of Z0 production in ep collisions.

Combination of differential D∗± cross-section measurements in deep-inelastic ep scattering at HERA
H1 and ZEUS have published single-differential cross sections for inclusive D ∗±-meson production in deep-inelastic ep scattering at HERA from their respective final data sets. These cross sections are combined in the common visible phase-space region of photon virtuality Q 2 > 5 GeV2, electron inelasticity 0.02 < y < 0.7 and the D ∗± meson's transverse momentum p T(D ∗) > 1.5 GeV and pseudorapidity |η(D ∗)| < 1.5. The combination procedure takes into account all correlations, yielding significantly reduced experimental uncertainties. Double-differential cross sections d2 σ/dQ 2dy are combined with earlier D ∗± data, extending the kinematic range down to Q 2 > 1.5 GeV2. Perturbative next-to-leading-order QCD predictions are compared to the results.

Measurement of inelastic J/ψ and ψ′ photoproduction at HERA
A bstract The cross sections for inelastic photoproduction of J/ψ and ψ ′ mesons have been measured in ep collisions with the ZEUS detector at HERA, using an integrated luminosity of 468 pb −1 collected in the period 1996–2007. The ψ ′ to J/ ψ cross section ratio was measured in the range 0 . 55 &lt; z &lt; 0 . 9 and 60 &lt; W &lt; 190 GeV as a function of W , z and p T . Here W denotes the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy, z is the fraction of the incident photon energy carried by the meson and p T is the transverse momentum of the meson with respect to the beam axis. The J/ψ cross sections were measured for 0 . 1 &lt; z &lt; 0 . 9, 60 &lt; W &lt; 240 GeV and p T &gt; 1 GeV. Theoretical predictions within the non-relativistic QCD framework including NLO colour-singlet and colour-octet contributions were compared to the data, as were predictions based on the k T -factorisation approach.

Measurement of the energy dependence of the total photon–proton cross section at HERA
The energy dependence of the photon–proton total cross section, σtotγp, was determined from e+p scattering data collected with the ZEUS detector at HERA at three values of the center-of-mass energy, W, of the γp system in the range 194<W<296 GeV. This is the first determination of the W dependence of σtotγp from a single experiment at high W. Parameterizing σtotγp∝W2ϵ, ϵ=0.111±0.009(stat.)±0.036(syst.) was obtained.

Charm production in charged current deep inelastic scattering at HERA
A bstract Charm production in charged current deep inelastic scattering has been measured for the first time in e ± p collisions, using data collected with the ZEUS detector at HERA, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 358 pb −1 . Results are presented separately for e + p and e − p scattering at a centre-of-mass energy of $$ \sqrt{s} $$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msqrt> <mml:mi>s</mml:mi> </mml:msqrt> </mml:math> = 318 GeV within a kinematic phase-space region of 200 GeV 2 &lt; Q 2 &lt; 60000 GeV 2 and y &lt; 0.9, where Q 2 is the squared four-momentum transfer and y is the inelasticity. The measured cross sections of electroweak charm production are consistent with expectations from the Standard Model within the large statistical uncertainties.

Test beam performance measurements for the Phase I upgrade of the CMS pixel detector
A new pixel detector for the CMS experiment was built in order to cope with the instantaneous luminosities anticipated for the Phase~I Upgrade of the LHC. The new CMS pixel detector provides four-hit tracking with a reduced material budget as well as new cooling and powering schemes. A new front-end readout chip mitigates buffering and bandwidth limitations, and allows operation at low comparator thresholds. In this paper, comprehensive test beam studies are presented, which have been conducted to verify the design and to quantify the performance of the new detector assemblies in terms of tracking efficiency and spatial resolution. Under optimal conditions, the tracking efficiency is $99.95\pm0.05\,\%$, while the intrinsic spatial resolutions are $4.80\pm0.25\,\mu \mathrm{m}$ and $7.99\pm0.21\,\mu \mathrm{m}$ along the $100\,\mu \mathrm{m}$ and $150\,\mu \mathrm{m}$ pixel pitch, respectively. The findings are compared to a detailed Monte Carlo simulation of the pixel detector and good agreement is found.

A search for a narrow baryonic state in the $pK^0_S$ and $\bar{p}K^0_S$ system has been performed in $ep$ collisions at HERA with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 358 pb$^{-1}$ taken in 2003-2007. The search was performed with deep inelastic scattering events at an $ep$ centre-of-mass energy of 318 GeV for exchanged photon virtuality, $Q^2$, between 20 and 100 $\rm{} GeV^{2}$. Contrary to evidence presented for such a state around 1.52 GeV in a previous ZEUS analysis using a sample of 121 pb$^{-1}$ taken in 1996-2000, no resonance peak was found in the $p(\bar{p})K^0_S$ invariant-mass distribution in the range 1.45-1.7 GeV. Upper limits on the production cross section are set.

Angular correlations in three-jet events inepcollisions at HERA
Three-jet production in deep inelastic $ep$ scattering and photoproduction was investigated with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of up to $127\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$. Measurements of differential cross sections are presented as functions of angular correlations between the three jets in the final state and the proton-beam direction. These correlations provide a stringent test of perturbative QCD and show sensitivity to the contributions from different color configurations. Fixed-order perturbative calculations assuming the values of the color factors ${C}_{F}$, ${C}_{A}$, and ${T}_{F}$ as derived from a variety of gauge groups were compared to the measurements to study the underlying gauge group symmetry. The measured angular correlations in the deep inelastic $ep$ scattering and photoproduction regimes are consistent with the admixture of color configurations as predicted by SU(3) and disfavour other symmetry groups, such as $\mathrm{SU}(N)$ in the limit of large $N$.

Studies of the diffractive photoproduction of isolated photons at HERA
The photoproduction of isolated photons has been measured in diffractive events recorded by the ZEUS detector at HERA.Cross sections are evaluated in the photon transverse-energy and pseudorapidity ranges 5 < E γ T < 15 GeV and -0.7 < η γ < 0.9, inclusively, and also with a jet with transverse energy and pseudorapidity in the ranges 4 < E jet T < 35 GeV and -1.5 < η jet < 1.8, using a total integrated electronproton luminosity of 456 pb -1 .A number of kinematic variables were studied and compared to predictions from the RAPGAP Monte Carlo model.An excess of data is observed above the RAPGAP predictions for z meas P > 0.9, where z meas P is the fraction of the longitudinal momentum of the colorless "Pomeron" exchange that is transferred to the photon-jet final state, giving evidence for direct Pomeron interactions.

Azimuthal correlations in photoproduction and deep inelastic ep scattering at HERA
A bstract Collective behaviour of final-state hadrons, and multiparton interactions are studied in high-multiplicity ep scattering at a centre-of-mass energy $$ \sqrt{s} $$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msqrt> <mml:mi>s</mml:mi> </mml:msqrt> </mml:math> = 318 GeV with the ZEUS detector at HERA. Two- and four-particle azimuthal correlations, as well as multiplicity, transverse momentum, and pseudorapidity distributions for charged-particle multiplicities N ch ≥ 20 are measured. The dependence of two-particle correlations on the virtuality of the exchanged photon shows a clear transition from photoproduction to neutral current deep inelastic scattering. For the multiplicities studied, neither the measurements in photoproduction processes nor those in neutral current deep inelastic scattering indicate significant collective behaviour of the kind observed in high-multiplicity hadronic collisions at RHIC and the LHC. Comparisons of PYTHIA predictions with the measurements in photoproduction strongly indicate the presence of multiparton interactions from hadronic fluctuations of the exchanged photon.

Limits on the effective quark radius from inclusive $ep$ scattering at HERA
The high-precision HERA data allows searches up to TeV scales for Beyond the Standard Model contributions to electron-quark scattering. Combined measurements of the inclusive deep inelastic cross sections in neutral and charged current $ep$ scattering corresponding to a luminosity of around 1 fb$^{-1}$ have been used in this analysis. A approach to the beyond the Standard Model analysis of the inclusive $ep$ data is presented; simultaneous fits of parton distribution functions together with contributions of new physics processes were performed. Results are presented considering a finite radius of quarks within the quark form-factor model. The resulting 95% C.L. upper limit on the effective quark radius is $0.43\cdot 10^{-16}$ cm.

Combined QCD and electroweak analysis of HERA data
A simultaneous fit of parton distribution functions (PDFs) and electroweak parameters to HERA data on deep inelastic scattering is presented. The input data are the neutral current and charged current inclusive cross sections which were previously used in the QCD analysis leading to the HERAPDF2.0 PDFs. In addition, the polarisation of the electron beam was taken into account for the ZEUS data recorded between 2004 and 2007. Results on the vector and axial-vector couplings of the Z boson to u- and d-type quarks, on the value of the electroweak mixing angle and the mass of the W boson are presented. The values obtained for the electroweak parameters are in agreement with Standard Model predictions.

Measurement of jet production in deep inelastic scattering and NNLO determination of the strong coupling at ZEUS
Abstract A new measurement of inclusive-jet cross sections in the Breit frame in neutral current deep inelastic scattering using the ZEUS detector at the HERA collider is presented. The data were taken in the years 2004–2007 at a centre-of-mass energy of $$318\,\,\textrm{GeV}$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mn>318</mml:mn> <mml:mspace /> <mml:mspace /> <mml:mtext>GeV</mml:mtext> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> and correspond to an integrated luminosity of $$347\,\,\textrm{pb}^{-1}$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mn>347</mml:mn> <mml:mspace /> <mml:mspace /> <mml:msup> <mml:mtext>pb</mml:mtext> <mml:mrow> <mml:mo>-</mml:mo> <mml:mn>1</mml:mn> </mml:mrow> </mml:msup> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> . Higgs self-coupling measurements at the FCC-hh
The hadron collider phase of the Future Circular Collider (FCC-hh) is a proton-proton collider operating at a center-of-mass energy of 100 TeV. It is one of the most ambitious projects planned for the rest of this century and offers ample opportunities in the hunt for new physics, both through its direct detection reach as well as through indirect evidence from precision measurements. Extracting a precision measurement of the Higgs self-coupling from the Higgs pair production cross-section will play a key role in our understanding of electroweak symmetry breaking, as the self-coupling gives insight into the nature of the Higgs potential. With the large data set of in total 30 $\text{ab}^{-1}$ which is envisioned to be collected during the FCC-hh runtime the Higgs self-coupling will be determined down to the percent level. This paper presents prospect studies for Higgs self-coupling measurements in the $b\bar{b}\gamma\gamma$ and $b\bar{b}\ell\ell + E_{\text{T}}^{\text{miss}}$ final states, with the combined, expected precision on the Higgs self-coupling modifier $\kappa_{\lambda}$ reaching 3.2-5.7% at 68% confidence level, assuming all other Higgs couplings follow their Standard Model expectations and depending on the systematic uncertainties assumed. This high precision is mostly driven by the $b\bar{b}\gamma\gamma$ final state analysis, while the $b\bar{b}\ell\ell + E_{\text{T}}^{\text{miss}}$ final state - newly studied for its FCC-hh prospects in this document - on its own reaches a maximum precision of roughly 20% on $\kappa_{\lambda}$.

Scaled momentum spectra in deep inelastic scattering at HERA
Charged particle production has been studied in neutral current deep inelastic ep scattering with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 0.44 fb−1. Distributions of scaled momenta in the Breit frame are presented for particles in the current fragmentation region. The evolution of these spectra with the photon virtuality, Q 2, is described in the kinematic region 10 < Q 2 < 41000Ge V2. Next-to-leading-order and modified leading-log-approximation QCD calculations as well as predictions from Monte Carlo models are compared to the data. The results are also compared to e + e − annihilation data. The dependences of the pseudorapidity distribution of the particles on Q 2 and on the energy in the γp system, W, are presented and interpreted in the context of the hypothesis of limiting fragmentation.

Further studies of isolated photon production with a jet in deep inelastic scattering at HERA
Isolated photons with high transverse energy have been studied in deep inelastic ep scattering with the ZEUS detector at HERA, using an integrated luminosity of 326 pb−1 in the range of exchanged-photon virtuality 10-350 GeV2. Outgoing isolated photons with transverse energy 4 < E < 15 GeV and pseudorapidity − 0.7 < η γ < 0.9 were measured with accompanying jets having transverse energy and pseudorapidity 2.5 < E jet < 35 GeV and −1.5 < ηjet < 1.8, respectively. Differential cross sections are presented for the following variables: the fraction of the incoming photon energy and momentum that is transferred to the outgoing photon and the leading jet; the fraction of the incoming proton energy transferred to the photon and leading jet; the differences in azimuthal angle and pseudorapidity between the outgoing photon and the leading jet and between the outgoing photon and the scattered electron. Comparisons are made with theoretical predictions: a leading-logarithm Monte Carlo simulation, a next-to-leading-order QCD prediction, and a prediction using the k T -factorisation approach.

Study of taupair production at HERA
A study of events containing two tau leptons with high transverse momentum has been performed with the ZEUS detector at HERA, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.33 fb−1. The tau candidates were identified from their decays into electrons, muons or hadronic jets. The number of tau-pair candidates has been compared with the prediction from the Standard Model, where the largest contribution is expected from Bethe-Heitler processes. The total visible cross section was extracted. Standard Model expectations agree well with the measured distributions, also at high invariant mass of the tau pair.

Production of exclusive dijets in diffractive deep inelastic scattering at HERA
Production of exclusive dijets in diffractive deep inelastic $e^\pm p$ scattering has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 372 pb$^{-1}$. The measurement was performed for $γ^*-p$ centre-of-mass energies in the range $90 &lt; W &lt; 250$ GeV and for photon virtualities $Q^2 &gt; 25$ GeV$^2$. Energy and transverse-energy flows around the jet axis are presented. The cross section is presented as a function of $β$ and $ϕ$, where $β=x/x_{\rm I\!P}$, $x$ is the Bjorken variable and $x_{\rm I\!P}$ is the proton fractional longitudinal momentum loss. The angle $ϕ$ is defined by the $γ^*-$dijet plane and the $γ^*-e^\pm$ plane in the rest frame of the diffractive final state. The $ϕ$ cross section is measured in bins of $β$. The results are compared to predictions from models based on different assumptions about the nature of the diffractive exchange.

Scaled momentum distributions for $ K_S^0 $KS and $ \Lambda /\bar{\Lambda } $ in DIS at HERA
A bstract Scaled momentum distributions for the strange hadrons $ K_{\text{S}}^0 $ and $ \Lambda /\bar{\Lambda } $ were measured in deep inelastic ep scattering with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 330 pb −1 . The evolution of these distributions with the photon virtuality, Q 2 , was studied in the kinematic region 10 &lt; Q 2 &lt; 40000 GeV 2 and 0 . 001 &lt; x &lt; 0 . 75, where x is the Bjorken scaling variable. Clear scaling violations are observed. Predictions based on different approaches to fragmentation were compared to the measurements. Leading-logarithm parton-shower Monte Carlo calculations interfaced to the Lund string fragmentation model describe the data reasonably well in the whole range measured. Next-to-leading-order QCD calculations based on fragmentation functions, FFs, extracted from e + e − data alone, fail to describe the measurements. The calculations based on FFs extracted from a global analysis including e + e − , ep and pp data give an improved description. The measurements presented in this paper have the potential to further constrain the FFs of quarks, anti-quarks and gluons yielding $ K_{\text{S}}^0 $ and $ \Lambda /\bar{\Lambda } $ strange hadrons.

The CMS data analysis school experience
The CMS Data Analysis School is an official event organized by the CMS Collaboration to teach students and post-docs how to perform a physics analysis. The school is coordinated by the CMS schools committee and was first implemented at the LHC Physics Center at Fermilab in 2010. As part of the training, there are a number of "short" exercises on physics object reconstruction and identification, Monte Carlo simulation, and statistical analysis, which are followed by "long" exercises based on physics analyses. Some of the long exercises go beyond the current state of the art of the corresponding CMS analyses.

ZEUS Results
Several results from the ZEUS Collaboration were presented at this Workshop. The highlights are presented in this summary, and include results from NLO QCD fits and determination of αS, from forward jets and diffractive final states, from pentaquarks and searches and from heavy flavour production. Also the first results from the analysis of the HERA II e+p/e−p data are shown.

EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS ON SEARCHES BEYOND THE STANDARD MODEL
Recent results for direct searches for physics beyond the Standard Model are reviewed. The results include Tevatron II data up to 1.2 fb-1 and HERA results up to 350 pb-1. Searches for Supersymmetry, for compositeness and for large extra dimensions are presented. The excess of events with an isolated lepton and high missing transverse momentum at HERA is discussed.

Measurements of the Higgs properties with Run2 data in the bosonic channels
Recent results on the Higgs boson decays into WW$^\ast$, ZZ$^\ast$ and $\gamma \gamma$, obtained with the 2016 data collected by the CMS experiment, are presented. The decays into a pair of W bosons was observed with a significance of 9.1 $\sigma$ and has achieved a comparable precision in signal strength compared to the other two channels. The Higgs boson mass has been measured in the channel with a pair of Z bosons decaying into four leptons as $m_\mathrm{H}=125.26 \pm 0.20~(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.08 ~(\mathrm{syst})=125.26 \pm 0.21$ GeV, achieving the highest precision to-date.

Charm production in charged current deep inelastic scattering at HERA
Charm production in charged current deep inelastic scattering has been measured for the first time in $e^{\pm}p$ collisions, using data collected with the ZEUS detector at HERA, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $358 pb^{-1}$. Results are presented separately for $e^{+}p$ and $e^{-}p$ scattering at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 318 GeV$ within a kinematic phase-space region of $200 GeV^{2}<Q^{2}<60000 GeV^{2}$ and $y<0.9$, where $Q^{2}$ is the squared four-momentum transfer and $y$ is the inelasticity. The measured cross sections of electroweak charm production are consistent with expectations from the Standard Model within the large statistical uncertainties.

Biological monitoring of exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and to metallic elements in Italian Navy workers operating near the industrial area in Taranto (South Italy).
To assess, by means of biological monitoring, exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and to metallic elements in Italian Navy workers operating near the industrial area in Taranto, and thereby estimate the health risk.A total of 450 workers in the Italian Navy were examined; they had office type jobs, and 150 of them worked near the industrial area in Taranto (exposed group), 150 in Taranto but far from this area (internal control group) and 150 in Brindisi (external control group). The recruited workers were administered a questionnaire inquiring about current and previous working activities, personal medical history, lifestyle and dietary habits, and their residence location. Then they collected a urine sample for the determination of 1-hydroxypyrene, 2-naphthol, cotinine and the metallic elements As, Cd, Co, Cr, Mn, Ni, Pb, Cu, Zn and Hg. The latter were measured in 110 workers in each group. In addition, in some of the work sites of the three groups, environmental samplings were carried out to determine PAHs and the 10 metallic elements, also taking into account the wind direction.Airborne benzo(a)pyrene concentrations at the different sampling sites ranged from 0.02 to 0.06 ng/m3 and naphthalene between <25 and 65.3 ng/m3, regardless of the wind direction. Among the metallic elements, As, Cd, Co, Cr, Hg, Pb, Cu and Zn were present at concentrations below or just above the limit of detection (LOD). Mn and Ni were slightly higher in the work sites of the exposed group. The urinary concentrations of 1-hydroxypyrene, 2-naphthol and the single metallic elements were not higher in the exposed workers group than in the other 2 groups. Smokers had significantly higher urinary 1-hydroxypyrene and 2-naphthol concentrations, whereas cigarette smoking did not condition a higher urinary elimination of metallic elements in the three groups with the exception of Cd and Pb. Moreover, residence location conditioned Mn, Hg and As urinary excretion, consumption of shellfish and/or crustaceans in the 72 hours before urine collection conditioned As elimination, and consumption of legumes in the 72 hours before urine collection conditioned Ni elimination.This research did not find a higher urinary excretion of 1-hydroxypyrene, 2-naphthol and As, Cd, Co, Cr, Mn, Ni, Pb, Cu, Zn and Hg in the exposed workers group as compared to the internal control group working far from the industrial area of Taranto, nor in the group working in another city far away from Taranto, Brindisi. Therefore, it indicated that workers in the Italian Navy operating near the industrial area in Taranto were not exposed to a greater risk attributable to exposure to PAHs and metallic elements than the two control groups.

EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS ON SEARCHES BEYOND THE STANDARD MODEL
Recent results for direct searches for physics beyond the Standard Model are reviewed. The results include Tevatron II data up to 1.2 fb -1 and HERA results up to 350 pb -1 . Searches for Supersymmetry, for compositeness and for large extra dimensions are presented. The excess of events with an isolated lepton and high missing transverse momentum at HERA is discussed.

Conceptualizing Urban Experiences
The aim of this study is to establish a population estimate for the settlement of Tell es-Sultan/ancient Jericho, following its development from the Early Bronze I village up to the Early Bronze II-III fortified city.The archaeological contexts of the domestic quarter excavated in the northern plateau of the tell (Area F in the Italian-Palestinian grid of excavations) provide a useful set of data for such a demographic analysis, allowing to draw out a picture of the population and demography of Jericho during the Early Bronze Age I-III.

The Muon Filter of the L3 detector
In this article we describe the outer part (Muon Filter) of the Hadron Calorimeter of the L3 detector. Construction and performance of the brass chambers, which form the sensitive part of the detector, are reviewed. We also report the results from data taken on two beam tests, at CERN.

Valve assembly controls air flow from feeder into main duct, with minimum of turbulence, friction, pressure differential, and noise. Valve consists of damper, deflector, and spring. Streamlining of damper and deflector merges flow smoothly, while spring keeps damper and deflector in contact and eliminates valve chatter and damping vibrations.

Azimuthal correlations in photoproduction and deep inelastic $\boldsymbol{ep}$ scattering at HERA
Collective behaviour of final-state hadrons, and multiparton interactions are studied in high-multiplicity $ep$ scattering at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=318$ GeV with the ZEUS detector at HERA. Two- and four-particle azimuthal correlations, as well as multiplicity, transverse momentum, and pseudorapidity distributions for charged-particle multiplicities $N_{\textrm{ch}} \geq 20$ are measured. The dependence of two-particle correlations on the virtuality of the exchanged photon shows a clear transition from photoproduction to neutral current deep inelastic scattering. For the multiplicities studied, neither the measurements in photoproduction processes nor those in neutral current deep inelastic scattering indicate significant collective behaviour of the kind observed in high-multiplicity hadronic collisions at RHIC and the LHC. Comparisons of PYTHIA predictions with the measurements in photoproduction strongly indicate the presence of multiparton interactions from hadronic fluctuations of the exchanged photon.

Impact of jet-production data on the next-to-next-to-leading-order determination of HERAPDF2.0 parton distributions
The HERAPDF2.0 ensemble of parton distribution functions (PDFs) was introduced in 2015. The final stage is presented, a next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) analysis of the HERA data on inclusive deep inelastic $ep$ scattering together with jet data as published by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations. A perturbative QCD fit, simultaneously of $\alpha_s(M_Z^2)$ and and the PDFs, was performed with the result $\alpha_s(M_Z^2) = 0.1156 \pm 0.0011~{\rm (exp)}~ ^{+0.0001}_{-0.0002}~ {\rm (model}$ ${\rm +~parameterisation)}~ \pm 0.0029~{\rm (scale)}$. The PDF sets of HERAPDF2.0Jets NNLO were determined with separate fits using two fixed values of $\alpha_s(M_Z^2)$, $\alpha_s(M_Z^2)=0.1155$ and $0.118$, since the latter value was already chosen for the published HERAPDF2.0 NNLO analysis based on HERA inclusive DIS data only. The different sets of PDFs are presented, evaluated and compared. The consistency of the PDFs determined with and without the jet data demonstrates the consistency of HERA inclusive and jet-production cross-section data. The inclusion of the jet data reduced the uncertainty on the gluon PDF. Predictions based on the PDFs of HERAPDF2.0Jets NNLO give an excellent description of the jet-production data used as input.

Diffraction
This report summarizes recent results on diffraction obtained at HERA, at the Tevatron and by the fixed target experiment E665. The measurements include vector meson production, inclusive diffraction at HERA and the pomeron structure function as inferred from the HERA and the Tevatron data.
