Empagliflozin in Heart Failure with a Preserved Ejection Fraction
Empagliflozin in Heart Failure with a Preserved Ejection FractionTo the Editor: Anker et al. (Oct.14 issue) 1 report that in EMPEROR-Preserved (Empagliflozin Outcome Trial in Patients with Chronic Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction), empagliflozin reduced the incidence of primary outcome events among patients with heart failure and a preserved ejection fraction, and they contrast their results with those with spironolactone in the TOPCAT (Treatment of Preserved Cardiac Function Heart Failure with an Aldosterone Antagonist) trial. 2 However, the incidences of cardiovascular death, death from any cause, and hospitalization for heart failure were higher in the empagliflozin group of EMPEROR-Preserved than in the spironolactone group of the TOPCAT trial.Although 82% of the patients were receiving diuretics at randomization in the TOPCAT trial, data on the use of diuretics were not shown in EMPEROR-Preserved. 1 A low overall use of diuretics in EMPEROR-Preserved would have created a bias in favor of empagliflozin, which acts as an osmotic diuretic.Concomitantly, the possible lack of an adequately dosed loop diuretic could have contributed to a higher overall mortality in EMPEROR-Preserved than in the TOPCAT trial. Can the authors provide data on the baseline diuretic use and comment on the apparently in-

Block 1 (pre-clinical and paraclinical) electives for medical students in the new competency-based medical education curriculum – Analysis and evaluation
Background: Pre-clinical electives were introduced by the National Medical Commission for competency-based undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor Of Surgery program during phase 3-part 1 to provide the learners with an opportunity to gain immersive experience in a particular stream, with the objective to provide learner with opportunities for diverse learning and lateral thinking. The impact of these learning experiences is not available as it was introduced for the 1st time in Indian Medical Colleges. Aims and Objectives: The present research aims to analyze and evaluate the outcome of the electives in terms of students’ satisfaction (knowledge and skills), teaching and learning methodology, assessment methodology, workload demand, and utility. Materials and Methods: It was a questionnaire-based (Google form) cross-sectional study conducted among phase 3-part 1 student after completion of elective. Results: A total of 187 students out of 191 participated in the research. 97.9% (183) were satisfied with the duration, and 79.7% (149) said that the learning objective was useful for their learning experience (topic). 82.3% (154) said that they were allowed to think independently about the topic. 78.9% (147) were satisfied with the assessment components of the elective. 44 (23.5%) felt that it required a low workload, whereas 143 (76.5%) felt that it required a high workload. 28% felt that it should be practically oriented, 20% felt that it should be done after 2nd year, and 20% felt that there should be rotation for multiple topics. Conclusion: Electives are a good opportunity to gain multi-dimensional knowledge and skills in a particular stream. It gives opportunity to explore more than one topic to augment future study.

Recent Measurement on the $$\text {B}\rightarrow \mu ^+\mu ^-$$ Properties with CMS Data
Rare decays of beauty mesons are an ideal place to search the effect of New Physics (NP) contributions by measuring decay rates and properties precisely. The decay of $$\text {B}_{\text {s}}^{0}$$ and $$\text {B}^{0}$$ mesons to two muons are highly suppressed in the Standard Model (SM) because of helicity and CKM suppression. The most recent studies from CMS collaboration and a combination of results from the ATLAS, CMS, and LHCb experiments, using the data collected at LHC between 2011 and 2016 are presented.

Rare B decays at CMS
In these proceedings, the recent measurements of the B 0 s → µ + µ -decay branching fraction and its effective lifetime and the search for the B 0 → µ + µ -decay using the data collected by the CMS experiment at LHC between the years 2011 and 2016 have been presented.Recently, a combined analysis of the decays B 0 s → µ + µ -and B 0 → µ + µ -by ATLAS, CMS, and LHCb has been performed, which is also discussed in this paper. The third part of these proceeding includes the search for τ leptons decaying into three muons using the data collected by the CMS experiment in 2016.
